bengalsrz
well i had a great idea and i want to see what you guys thinki think the bengals would be great in a 3-4 formation on defenseLE: Duane Clemons (only problem with the lineup)RE: Justin SmithDT: Byran Robinson or Thornton (doesnt really matter between them twoLOLB: PollackLILB: Odell ThurmanRILB: Nate WebsterROLB: Brian Simmonsso what do you guys think, is it as great as i think
bengalindian
Erm, I think we've had this discussion before. The tackle is not strong enough, plus, Nate the Great may not ever be 100% again. But on the the 3-4, why not Geathers over Clemons? And what about Landon?Plus, they gotta get Pollack signed and into the basics of NFL linebacking before they decide to change up the whole playbook.Just some thoughts... joshh967
I think it might be a possibility for some of the teams we play. Any type that has more of a passing offense...it would be perfect, but as said before...do we have the personnel?
bengalsrz
ya, we need a bigger DT
bengalindian
I must add that if Landon, Odell, Pollack and Simmons were the backers, that would make for a very, very, very, strong and fast linebacking corps, that after a full offseason of working together, could become a very good 3-4 linebacking group. Also, if B-rob could prove this season that he is a dominant, or atleast, capable of being, DT, then he could move to NT and the Bengals could have themselves a pretty decent 3-4 D.Hopefully in '06 the Bengals will have this versatility and will help carry them to the Super Bowl. andybren
Nate Webster ahead of Landon Johnson? Yeah, great idea.

ArmyBengal
Nope not this year, as stated in to many other threads now, and not next year either, unless the Bengals draft someone as big as a house at DT to go along with B-Robinson to play NT. Love the idea of that LB set though, oh my God that is just vicious !!!Pollack - Thurman - Johnson - Simmons :player: :player: WHODEY !!! The_Next_Big_Thing
Stooooopid!Ain't gonna happen. We have no true nose tackle. Why do you idiots keep asking the same stooooopid question over and over and over and over and over and over and over again? In the AFCN, we'd get washed out on interior runs faster than a sand castle at high tide. Please stop these stupid posts.
alleycat
Stooooopid!Ain't gonna happen. We have no true nose tackle. Why do you idiots keep asking the same stooooopid question over and over and over and over and over and over and over again?Good point, Big - No NT, our DE's are not big enough, and our MLBs need to be bigger too. In the AFCN, we'd get washed out on interior runs faster than a sand castle at high tide. Please stop these stupid posts. Personnel wise, I agree we can't hack it, though it does feel like a package that we could use in the right situation to give the defense some different looks. Anybody see how totally confused the Ravens made Vick (I know, not THAT hard to do) last night with their mulitiple looks? They looked like a bunch of lunatics escaped from the asylum dancing around back there. But I have to say, any enthusiams I may have had for the 3-4 went out the window when I watched the way Odell moved around that field. We pound some discipline into that guy and people will start saying Takeo is the lesser version of HIM. Lewis said when he drafted he had that "look" and he reminded him of a certain number 52 he once grabbed... Again, he was a little wild, but damn it was fun to see somebody explode through his hits like that and come flying to the ball - NO MATTER WHERE IT WAS ON THE FIELD. I didn't see him miss one tackle, a problem that still very much exists in Bengaland - except when he jumped OVER the qb.If we can get a little more stout at the point with Pollack (Where, oh where has my little Pollack gone?), have Thurman then Landon coming in to clean up, I think a lot of our run D issues will be in the past (notice I said Landon, not Simmons. I expect to catch some flack for that, but I saw him getting blocked out of too many plays yesterday. It's premature, I know, but it's definately the future). BlainThePain
I don't know if we will switch to a 3-4 or not, but I will say this. The Steelers had the number one defense in football last year with Chris Hoke (6'2" 296 pounds) playing nose most of the year and a 3-4 would definantly put our best personel on the field. ShulaSteakhouse
And again if the Bengals did this then they would have no position for Justin Smith or Jumpy Jr. or Clemons.Forget it.
