I wouldn't call it panic. just the truth.

Run D was non-existent. Wil they improve, how can't they? They had a few gret play but many many bad plays, beyond a mistake.

Pass D missed some opps. (picks) but had 4 sacks.

Offense lacked timing. Kitna's peak passed in 2003. Bramlet was OK, Krenzel gets a pass, he's a short timer.

Punt game has no excuse. Larson better step up.

I would chalk this up as the first preseason game nothing more, nothing less.  The first preseason game rarely gives you any indication on how a team will perform.  At least wait until the 3rd preseason game before you pass judgement on the run D

I don't generally get either that upset or excited about preseason games. It's all vanilla v. vanilla, and the only thing you can really look at is individual performance.

Noteworthy tonight: Stacy Andrews, Odell Thurman, Deltha O'Neal, Chris Perry, Rudi Johnson, the first-string o-line

So-so: Chad Johnson, Chris Henry, the first-string d-line, Jon Kitna, Casey Bramlet

Not so good: Kelly Washington, Matt Schobel, Kim Herring, Carson Palmer, Kyle Richardson

Memo from the "it figures" department: Landon getting dinged.

Memo from the AWOL department: did TJ even play???

Lots of poor tackling and missed chances on the D.

Their scrubs beat our scrubs...depth maybe not as good as we thought?

Red zone struggles (Peter, where are you?), Landon ouched (Pollack...time's a-wastin'). Certainly if Marvin's pre-game comments whacking Rosenhaus for "putting Warrick out there" and Pollack for dragging things out were intended to put pressure on both...events spoke louder than his words, IMHO.

All things to take into the next week.

Did Kyle Richardson leave the Browns already? I think you meant Larson. ;)

Well Perry can tun the O, Rudi is toast!

lol @ yall.

DPM has been trying to tell you all along about Chris Perry and yall werent hearing it.

If Perry's average gain per rush improves by a half yard per carry....it still wouldn't be as good as the stat he keeps propping up as proof that Rudi sucks.

Perry - 3.41 average gain per rush...against backups.

I get that there are rivalries on this message board that predate my participation, and that said personality issues factor into discussions of favorite players (ie. Dillon, Rudi, Perry), but exactly how does a true Bengal fan get off on a Bengal player possibly getting upstaged/outplayed by a teammate? I for one will gladly admit my mistake if Kelley Washington turns out to be the next Randy Moss. You won't hear me cheering or taunting or anything if the opposite plays out. (Especially when fans of rival teams chime in with their support or opposition.)

But as it pertains to actual on-the-field football, could somebody please explain to me why Perry's potential success means Rudi is "toast", "history", "trade-bait" or anything other than a strong RB who will still get plenty of carries? Sometimes the short-sightedness on this board is infuriating.

over 160 yrd rushing?

I think a lot of those yards were by the QB when he didn't see anyone open. If he keeps doing that, he'll be injured before he ever gets to play in a real game. Also, a lot of them were at the beginning of the second half when the real defense was no longer playing. I thought the defense looked pretty good. Afterall, while our first string defense was playing, we won on time of possession, number of plays run, and points scored.

On the other hand, I am worried about Palmer having sophomore slump. He was sharp at the beginning of last year's preseason. Why is he rusty at the start of this one? I do think part of the problem is that he was looking for Chad too much. He was clearly double-covered on the interception. Wasn't anyone else out there? I never saw TJ the whole night. Did he play??

If you only had No Huddle of just checked the stats, you would'nt know how great Perry played unless you read some of the posts on this thread -- it sounds like he had himself a Terrell Owens Super Bowl performance.

I didn't see 1 Perry touch on No Huddle, but I can't wait to be dazzled by Perry's performance.

No Huddle didn't show hardly any Bengals O on No Huddle or much of the game at all compared to other collossal battles like the Bucs vs. Titans. You would think that the match-up between the defending Super Bowl champs and one of the most hyped up teams in the pre-season would've made it on the air a whole more.

At least they did show Rudi's 18 yarder and how he turned his shoulder into Eugene Wilson's head at the "monet" of impact. Rudi looked outstanding from what I saw but unfortunately they showed a lot more Steven Jackson and Larry Johnson than Rudi.

You're so right Andy, but one of the things most people don't understand about DPM is that he is a Dillon fan first, Bengals fan second. His presence on this board has effectively corrupted many of the other Bengal fans here, since the feel forced to choose sides between Rudi and Perry... a rivalry that I am willing to bet they are unaware of.

I don't remember anyone wanting Brooks to succeed and Woods to fail, or vice versa. Both of them needed to succeed for the Bengals to win. So don't blame everyone involved for the Perry/Rudi debate. It was started out of spite.

By that I mean, had the roles had been reversed... Had Perry been the one that was a key part of Dillon being sent out of Cincinnati, and Rudi had been the one subsequently drafted, then DPM would love Rudi Johnson, hating Chris Perry, despite reasonable success.

But Rudi was the one who replaced the more talented Dillon, something that DPM will never be able to forget, so everytime he sees Rudi make a false step, he recalls Dillon's 275 yard game... and everytime he see's Rudi sprint for the endzone, he recalls that as the reason Dillon now plays in New England.

I for one want both of them to succeed, because Perry is a much quicker, make-you-miss sort of back, while Rudi will always be a more effective smash mouth back... you know... lighting and thunder. I'm excited that both of our backs triumphed last night, because they are signs of a really potent offense, the likes we haven't seen for a long time... so one's success is not the other's failure. Hopefully the poison of DPM's resentment can stop infiltrating the ranks of true Bengals fans, and we can rejoice in the success of both backs, seeing how when I look at pictures, their uniforms look remarkably similar.
