HairOnFire Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Just thought I'd mention that the NFL Network is doing a series of programs highlighting the training camps of individual teams. The first one featured the Jets and it was pretty good...though I have to admit that I glazed over a couple of times. Just too much Jets stuff for a non Jet fan to handle I guess. That said, the Bengals are going to be the featured team on August 9th. One more note. The programming info mentioned above was seen on the latest edition of Playbook. Included in that show were several segments about which offensive skill position players are likely to make major leaps in production this season. Our boy Solomon picked two Bengals, Carson Palmer and Kelley Washington. Ya gotta love a homer. Quote
LABengalsFan09 Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 CJ will be miked up for this episode (what a shock) during a short little feature. It should be hilarious.... the other 2 have been excellent. I believe Rich will be back in time to host the Bengals episode. Kara Henderson hosted the Jets and Titans and did a great job..... Quote
rizzy Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 I wish I had the nfl network to see all these. Quote
kingwilly Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 no...P-Dub is P-Done.KW will be around. Quote
gobengals19 Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 I wish I had the nfl network to see all these.Me too, I cannot believe Time Warner doesnt offer it but offers half of the other crap they carry for me to NOT buy. I called about it the other day, "We can take your request for it." Whatever, just get the damn channel, I will pay for it....no...P-Dub is P-Done.KW will be around.I agree 100% with this. I suspect the Bengals will wait one more week and then either put him on the PUP for good or release him. This is the position they have the most competition and depth at, they cannot afford to wait much longer on him.Plus, I see no reason to cut KW. He is cheap, knows the offense and is in a contract year. I suspect he has the type of season that we expected him to have last season [something slightly below TJ]. >>> Yeah, I know, that means Carson throws for 4200 yds but I feel strongly about that too. HairOnFire Posted August 4, 2005 Author Report Posted August 4, 2005 I believe Rich will be back in time to host the Bengals episode. Kara Henderson hosted the Jets and Titans and did a great job..... Now that you mention it Kara Henderson may be the reason I glazed over watching the Jet program. Whatever it is she's got, and I think it's the eyes...it works for me. I've only managed to catch about half of the program featuring the Titans, but it seemed crisper. More interviews with important players and coordinators and less talk about the drills being shown. Last, I sure hope Pollack is in the fold by the 9th. Not only would it be far more interesting if he were there I'd hate to see the program focus too much on why he wasn't. Quote

I thought I saw something that said they had already been there for the sessions with CJ miked. Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 4, 2005 Author Report Posted August 4, 2005 I believe it's a mixed bag. Many of the drills shown are said to be live action but as anyone who has attended a training camp can tell you things can slow to a crawl when the action breaks, coaches hold quick gab fests, or players gather around the water jugs. That's when they break away to taped interviews with players and coaches. Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 9, 2005 Author Report Posted August 9, 2005 Nothing to add. Just wanted to bump the thread and remind anyone interested that the program airs Tuesday. (Aug.9th) You may now return your attention to the many threads devoted to David Pollack and Madden video games. Quote
Irish Bengal Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Went to training camp this morning, C Perry looks healthy. He really looked good. K Washington looked like he has improved his route running in a huge way this year. Thurman sure does have some fire in his belly. He got in a little scrap with Jones I believe. Marvin even told him to calm down. I'm very excited about this team after watching them today. (Monday Morn) Quote
Sox Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Besides the 8:00 PM prohram,NFL Network is also supposedly showing an hour of practice live starting at 3:05. Quote
Bengals4Me Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 I had taped the live 3PM practice segment and watched it when I got home this evening. It's great being able to get some good Bengals coverage here in mid-PA (stuck in between Eagles, Steelers & Ravens). The best part was the CJ segment; MickeyD's then to the weight room. You just gotta love the guy. The best thing to happen to the Bengals in years - ability and upbeat attitude.I'm looking forward to the whole show @ 8 PM tonight.BTW, Chris Perry did look QUICK, just in the glimpses shown on a few plays. Will be watching Inside Training camp, but will they repeat the live hour any time. Please god, someone help me... Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 10, 2005 Author Report Posted August 10, 2005 Random thoughts... The opened up the program with a discussion about the heat. My immediate response was asking myself how hot could it be when sexy Kara Henderson was somewhere to be seen. Seriously, I missed her a great deal not only because of the way she looks, but because she isn't nearly as goofy as Rich Eisen. The heat was actually an important factor as the practice and drills run were focused more on teaching and half-speed walk throughs rather than an attempt to sort out the competition. Marvin coaches constantly. He always seems dissatisfied with the speed and tempo of the drills and I don't know if I've ever heard a miked up head coach who spends as much time instructing players on foot movement, hand placement, and simple body language. Might be a bore to some, but swear I find his coaching style and demeanor fascinating. He'll bark and chew on a player for awhile and then if that player is lucky he'll slip in a joke that lessons the sting a bit. Best of all he constantly reminds the players of how high the bar is being set. "We're going to win alot of games. We're going to win alot." Way too much Chad being Chad for my tastes, but I'm slowly getting used to that stuff. Then again, no I'm not because it still bugs me. Example: There must have been ten minutes spent on Chad eating at McDonalds. That said, the part were he orders from the drive-up and then asks for a job application was damn funny. The punt block drill with the fake leg looked pointless to me. Maybe I'd feel different if it were run differently. Back the players up and only practice the drill at top speed, vary the timing of the fake kick, and you'll force the players to adjust to the ball without hitting the kickers leg. And if that isn't the point of the drill, well what is it? Sheesh, how short is Jim Lippincott? I thought he looked like a fat kid with gray hair. Pumpkie can do better than that, right? Chris Perry DOES look good. Sharp cuts and plenty of explosion. Stay healthy kid. Quincy Wilson looked slow. On interior rushing drills he was repeatedly hit in the backfield, and I swear it happened on every attempt shown. By comparison Rudi and Perry always managed to be at least three yards past the line before first contact was made. And yeah, because defensive contact was limited to grabbing and slapping they managed to score everytime they touched the ball. Cliff Russell made the play of the show with a sweet one handed grab. Liked the short interview with Brat. Nothing new really, but it felt good hearing him talk about the weapons the offense has added if Warrick and Perry can get healthy. Last, since most of the practice was half speed crap I kept looking for unfamiliar players just to judge how they're cut or built. So let me take a moment to drive home the obvious. Stacy Andrews is freaking huge. But his set up and pre-snap stance seems real high to me. Not sure if it was the camera angle or simply because he's so much bigger than everyone else. Quote
LABengalsFan09 Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 It was pretty cool being Rich's right hand man for every thing Bengals in the preperation for the show.... You guys missed some funny moments too before it went to air... Quote

redsbengalsbucks Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 KW is done. I think you may be wrong, he is having a great camp and is now rated as the third or fourth WR in most analysis that I have read lately. Walter maybe done, he seems to continue to drop passes that he should catch, T. Perry has been impressive as WR but can he take over on ST if he gets Walters spot? Quote
The Big Orange Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Great Analysis, as always, Hair...Some of my thoughts were similar to yours...I enjoyed the stuff with Brat, and not being a huge Brat fan I thought he seemed on target and genuinely excited about the new options that 3 impact players being with the team this year (Warrick, Henry, and Chris Perry) will have on improving the team. Of those 3 I think Perry will open up the most options.I was also impressed with Patrick Body,,,I'm always wrong on who will make it and who won't, but this guy looks like the real deal to me.I also think our linebackers are pretty good even without Pollack (whom they obviously didn't want to talk about. As all of us already know our question marks, this show did nothing to alleviate any concerns I have about the strong safeties and defensive tackles.I thought the Fatburger part was interesting since I live around Atlanta, I had no idea they showed nothing but Bengals games there on Sunday...I'll have to make a trip, since they are on the other side of Atlanta than I am.I agree with you, Hair, the McDonald's thing didn't do anything for me...but his workout stuff was good...The "Let's go Viagra" line was damn funny before he started bench pressingSince mostly Bengals fans were watching this I would have preferred them focus on the Kim Herring/Anthony Mitchell battle...the D-line transition, the new wrinkles that a back like Chris Perry can bring to the O, and the Chris Henry/Kelly Washington battle for 3rd WR, even though Warrick could be the X factor in that race.I would have really proffered them do one of those specials they have done with the Ravens, Cowboys, and Jaguars which was a 6 part, 1 hour each special ...I think it's called Hard Knocks...inside Training camp. Those were thoroughly enjoyabe and I would give my left nut and eat a salad to have them do one of those on us. Quote
CBin2k7 Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 I thought the McDonalds part was funny, it was just part of Chad showing us what he does and eats on a typical day. His workout is awesome and the results show. I have a new respect for Chad after seeing how hard he goes at it in his workouts.Chris Perry looked good getting through the line and being shifty. I also didn't understand the punt block portion. I love the Marvin miked up section he is real convincing but not in a put you down kind of way and I think that is why the players respond to him. Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 10, 2005 Author Report Posted August 10, 2005 I watched the program again last night...fast forwarding thru the features...and stopping at the drills. Nothing much to add, but here's what stuck the 2nd time around. I think I was too hard on Quincy Wilson. He has a very nice run earlier in the program where he took advantage of a LB who had flashed an angle much too sharp. A quick shoulder dip and a straight arm later he easily gained the outside edge. Tab Perry passes the eye test right away. Big and fast, he gets your attention right away. That said, I thought he flashed too much wasted motion. Then again, maybe he has four elbows and six knees. I should have mentioned Ronnie Ghent in the earlier post. After slowing things down in an effort to better read the players uniform numbers Ghent seemed to show up everywhere. He worked with the backs. He worked with the receivers. And most importantly he worked quite a bit with the starters.....lining up in the backfield and at TE on successive plays during the blitz pickup drills. And he did a great job of catching the ball during the drills....always snatching it with his hands away from his body. I don't know if he'll stick on the final roster but those of you who criticized the predictability that resulted when the Bengals inserted a TE last season should be rooting hard for this guy. I'll stop now as I wouldn't want to make too much of a half hour of drills...most of which weren't run at top speed. Still, that was fun stuff for a fan who used to get his first glimpse of the Bengals during highlites of preseason games. Quote
