Brodney Pool and Sean Jones look to be the starting safetys for the Brownies this year after getting rid of Robert Griffith and Earl Little. Little basically just sucked, and Griffith was just a hard hitter who couldn't do well in coverage at all. Pool and Jones both haven't set foot on the field yet, Pool is a rookie, Jones was injured all last year. I just thought I'd see if you guys thought they could have the impact Williams did as a rookie or not.

Brian Russell is.. decent. He just doesn't have near the upside like Jones and Pool do. If Russell is the starter come opening day, Pool will eventually replace him in the lineup.

anything is possible...its all about the system and being confident...they will make plays and also get burned...part of the territory...

one thing about Madieu is he played 3 positions last year as a rookie, that is mighty impressive...it will be awesome to see him play a majority of snaps at FS this year...

Yeah I did notice he was getting moved around a lot, I see Pool being Versatile like Williams is. Jones will be a main force in our defense this year I'm thinking.

defensive backs these days are becoming more versatile...pool seems to me he needs to increase his versatility a bit (i.e. coverage skills)...whereas Jones is a classic SS....but they are better than what you had I believe....

Hells yeas, Griffith and Little? Don't get me wrong, Griffith was tough, but just wasn't a playmaker. Little tackled like a.. well, a little girl.

they will be ok, but need a few years to develop chemistry etc. browns are about 3-4 years away as a franchise.

True that Ditty, Savage is all about building through the draft. You can't really deny the man seeing what he did in Baltimore. This means it should take a few years before we really get going.

well they are going to be makin alot of stops cause ur front 7 is s**t... so i expect

sean jones to lead the browns in tackles

They'll be 2 very good safeties. The Browns should be able to build their defense around them.

I also believe that Sean Jones will be second on the Browns in tackles to Andra Davis.

Jones, Pool, and Davis will all be main contributors this year. The unheralded guy on the defense though is Daylon McCutcheon, the man is a great tackler and a pretty good #2 corner.

Good start for the rebuilding process, but they will need help for a couple of years that just isnt there. Wasnt the knock on pool that he was a bit slow for NFL? I just dont see him playing any CB.

Posted

Yeaahh, I doubt he will play any CB but I read an article that said he might. I'd rather see him playing Free Safety all the time though.

I think both will be solid players, but I think Andra Davis will still be the best Brown defender when the season ends. Given time, they could both be building blocks for a scary Romeo Crennel defense.

I am not sure that they will be the starters this year ...

In fact I read the other day that the Browns may use a rotation of four guys at Safety without any two being considered the true starters.

But I do think that these two guys are very good prospects and should be building blocks for the future.

I would say that WR & Safety & RB & TE are the spots where the Browns appear to be "set" for their re-build.

The big question for them is, will Frye pan out as their QB of the future, or will they still have to use a high pick for one next year or the year after.

BTW Who ...

I presume that you are following the Browns training camp, how about keeping us up to date with your impressions of how it is going ?

I have been following the training camp but I haven't gotten up to it yet, I think I'm going to check out the "family night" that they are having up at the stadium. So far, I know that all three of the running backs are looking pretty good, and that LJ Shelton looks to be a solid left tackle.

The receivers look good even without Braylon there, Bryant seems to be Dilfers favorite target and at tight end Heiden can catch pretty well.

On defense Lang has been making good progress in his switch to outside linebacker from Defensive end. Jones looks to be the starting strong safety, and Brodney Pool had an amazing session the other day at practice.

Oh yeah, Frye looks a lot better from when he was at the mini-camps and stuff, he just needs a few years to learn it looks like and he should be ready.

Haha, you know Willy Mcginnest? I think they want Kenard to be the Willy Mcginnest of our defense. I was really confused when they made the decision too but he is coming along fine.

Yea I have read that:

Shelton has looked good and bad, it seems that he may be better at run blocking than in pass protection.

Dilfer and Bryant have been hooking up and Baxter has started to give Bryant a larger cushion in coverage.

Pool has looked good as expected.

Frye has good physical presence but is Really Raw.

There is concern at NT because Fisk has been getting his ass kick.
