HairOnFire Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 The .com just reported he failed his physical and was promptly cut. Quote
HairOnFire Posted July 29, 2005 Author Report Posted July 29, 2005 Sorry, hadn't seen where Kentjett mentioned this in the depth thread. Wouldn't have started a new thread if I had. Quote
HoosierCat Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Bummer. Odd that they made such a hard run at him only to drop him on day 2 of camp. Especially when Ghuichuc is holding out; one less center in the fold only gives him more juice.Someone will snap Wilkerson up. Quote
DontPushMe Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 If you had been reading my posts this wouldnt suprise you one bit. Another case of me being right almost all the time. Quote
Bengals4Me Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 That's a downer. Of course, Wilkerson must be really bummed. I've rarely been on the player's side with contract negotiations/holdouts, etc. but this shows how tenuous things can be for the players. Wilkerson may be out of football for a while or forever (or why would the Bengals give up on him so quickly?) because of a freakish injury with only about $10K in his pocket, when otherwise he would have been looking at a possible $5 Million contract as a top draft choice. Not only that, but he reportedly turned down a $20 signing bonus after the draft to sign here because the Bengals told him he'd have a shot at the starter's job. Quote
DontPushMe Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Maybe since its so fun for some of you to bring back old posts of mine when I was wrong (which is still up in the air BTW), I should bring back some of the Wilkerson posts. The ones where i was saying he wouldnt make the team, and dozens of others were argueing saying that he would not only make the team, but actually start. Nah, I wont do it, I'm bigger then that. Spain Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 His knee must be shot! Poor guy I hate to see that happen to anybody! Quote
Pangloss Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Okay, what would they have found out today about Wilkerson that they did not already know? Surely they gave him a physical before signing him as a FA. Quote

Surely they gave him a physical before signing him as a FA. Good question. Conventional wisdom was he was headed to PUP or IR. Maybe they gave him a choice between that and being releases, and he decided to see if he catch on elsewhere? Quote

Nah, I wont do it, I'm bigger then that.Actually what most other posters said was that IF he could get healthy he would make the team. You maintained that healthy or not he wouldn't make the team.I fail to see just how this proves you to be right. But it is a shame that the kid didn't work out with the team ...... HoosierCat Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 You maintained that healthy or not he wouldn't make the team.I fail to see just how this proves you to be right. Yup. But he can rebound if his comparision of FA Patrick Body to Rodney Harrison holds up... Quote

walshfan Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Wilkerson was a FA... he's gone... Richie Braham is our starter.... Guy-check will be his backup ... Moore third string... We're ok at center... Quote

But he can rebound if his comparision of FA Patrick Body to Rodney Harrison holds up... But since you are going to try and put words in my mouth, how about i hit you with reality. Something that you actually said... Ghiaciuc is a far better center prospect then WilkersonWTF are you smoking, DPM? Wilkerson was a consensus top 3 center prospect; the highest I've seen Ghiaciuc ranked is 6th, and most had him in the 12-20 range. If Wilkerson is healthy, I have no doubt he's the center of the future. Ghiaciuc will provide solid backup, Braham and Moore will be gone, and we'll be set at center for the next 10 years. Quote

Haters!I am not trying to turn anything around on anybody ...I was just pointing out that this does not prove you to be right about Wilkerson. On the other hand it certainly doesn't prove you to be wrong.Wilkerson wasn't able to get healthy so we just don't know what would have happened if he had been able to.Who cares about who was right or wrong or whatever anyway. It is just a shame that the kid couldn't get healthy ...... DontPushMe Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 It absolutely proves me right. I said he will not make the 53 man roster. HE DIDNT. You guys are just using small meaningless excuses to get out of admitting that i was right. If the only problem with him was the injury, he would have been put on IR, but they knew he wouldnt amount to anything as an NFL player, and decided to cut him now. Thats it.I swear i could correctly predict our opening day roster for 2013 and you guys would still find a way to say I was wrong. Just accept it. Im right. Quote

Probably says all we need to know about how the Bengals had judged his rehab to date as well as their opinion about his long-term chances to return to his pre-injury form. Quote
walshfan Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Pre injury form?? The knock on him wasnt only his knee.. He was soft and weak by NFL standards.... he was a longshot that didnt work out.. we're okay at center with Richie and Guy-Check and Moore... Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Could it be that cutting him early like this is so that they can sign him to the practice squad later without as many people looking at him? Quote
CJBestInAFC Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Actually the report was wrong and Wilkerson is still on the team. He was put on the can't physically perform list, and it was a mistake. I just heard it on 1360 homer. Quote
