HoosierCat Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 per da site...Bengals third-round pick Chris Henry wrapped up a deal with club vice president Paul Brown Thursday morning and the West Virginia wide receiver reported here to Georgetown College. But second-rounder Odell Thurman won't be here by the 3 p.m. report date after one of his agents said he and the club have reached "an impasse over the term of the deal."Safarrah Lawson, head of STL Sports Management, wouldn't elaborate but said he and lead negotiator John Michels seek what the Bengals have given their second-rounders in recent years.Lawson wouldn't comment beyond his statement, but it appears Thurman is seeking a four-year deal rather than five. Both second-rounders last year, defensive backs Keiwan Ratliff and Madieu Williams, have four-year deals as does 2003 second-rounder Eric Steinbach. There is a spate of five-year deals in this year's second round. Quote
jditty47 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 and its all about the length. he better be in camp by monday at the latest. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I meant to bring this up earlier, but have been busy today... While out to eat with my wonderful wife (yes, she's looking over my shoulder) we ran into Odell's Aunt, Uncle, and little brother who were in San Antonio visiting. I was wearing my Bengals garb, as usual, and when they saw my Bengals shirt, they began asking questions about if I was from Cincinnati. We talked for a bit and they showed pictures. I asked how things were going for Odell and they said all was great. This translates somewhere in the middle of nowhere in regards to him signing, but thought it was neat. I would have to think they are just looking for the best deal and what was given in the past. If they truly have this guy penciled in as the starter, they need to get this done. On the flip side though, with a healthy Landon in the mix, it might put some pressure on the Thurman camp to get into camp.Who knows ??WHODEY !!! Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Can't blame him. He doesn't want to wait for that phat second contract. Quote
Kazkal Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I woulden't mind him getting a 4year contract sense unlike hawthorn<sp?> is willing to play for money in the round he was selected rather then 1st like he was suppossed to be Quote
jditty47 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 boy were u wrong. but width does matter more. Quote
Kazkal Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I thought length didn't matter... size always matters ask BO Quote
DontTakeAkili Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 All of this hand-wrenching over getting picks into camp on time will be history if the NFL gets its way and starts slotting rookie salaries like the NBA. I for one would be happy to see it.What the Bengals' defense doesn't need is to have rookies take a big step back by missing significant time. I especially would like to see Pollack get as many reps as possible since he is changing positions. And I for one would think that Thurman would want a shorter first deal instead of a longer one. It seems like the deal he wants puts bigger money further away from him. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I for one would think that Thurman would want a shorter first deal instead of a longer one. It seems like the deal he wants puts bigger money further away from him. And that is exactly the problem, he wants 4 years, Mike Brown wants 5 because he knows Thurman is going to be good. Quote
Kazkal Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 No word on pollack or erics contract @ all i wonder how those are going Quote
bengalsLB Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 well i'm not that concerned with thurman getting in on time cause we got landoni like thurman and think he will be great but if he misses alot of camp landon to the rescue.... now if pollack misses alot of camp we are f**ked Quote
DontPushMe Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 well i'm not that concerned with thurman getting in on time cause we got landoni like thurman and think he will be great but if he misses alot of camp landon to the rescue.... now if pollack misses alot of camp we are f**ked actually we are only f**ked if both dont get into camp, because if thurman signs and pollack doesnt, landon could easily play SSLB as well, but just the thought of caleb miller being our starting LB at any position is scary, so 1 of them better sign quickly Quote
BlainThePain Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Kazkal that sig pic is powerfully hypnotizing. The government should use it to fight terrorism. Quote
BlainThePain Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Pollack is obviously the most important pick to be signed because SLB needs beef and we don't really have that in our backups. I actually feel that Ghiaciuc is more important to get into camp than Thurman. I am more than comfortable having Johnson start in the middle, but if Braham goes down and we don't have a backup ready, then our whole offense will fall apart. It will also take less time for any linebacker to adjust to the NFL than a center. I want Ghiaciuc ready to step in for Braham by the first season game. It was like having two different offenses last year when Braham was playing and not playing. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Thurman should be happy the bengals offered him 5 years. He will prob. get more money than anyone could ever dream of having, so he should be happy and take it. This is only going to hurt Odell as Landon takes over in training camp his position that was given to him, he could loose his starting job. And therre is no excuse why Eric is holding out. He is a fourth round pick, sign and be happy with it. I didnt think Pollack would hold out cause i didnt think he was that type of guy, but i have heard he wants about $8-$9 mill guarnteed Quote
jditty47 Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 its his rookie contract = longer hes in it, the longer he has to wait to make big money if he does break out. if he doesnt break out however, its a great contract offer. Quote
CantStop85 Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Could Nate Webster play a little OLB if necessary? And what's his injury status? Quote
DontPushMe Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Could Nate Webster play a little OLB if necessary? Not after he gets cut. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Could Nate Webster play a little OLB if necessary? Not after he gets cut. Do I actually agree with the DP me? Quote
DontTakeAkili Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 actually we are only f**ked if both dont get into camp, because if thurman signs and pollack doesnt, landon could easily play SSLB as well, but just the thought of caleb miller being our starting LB at any position is scary, so 1 of them better sign quicklySpeaking of Caleb Miller, is there any word on if he has put on some muscle during the offseason? I think he has some potential, but he almost looked like a defensive back trying to tackle running backs last year. He could really benefit from hitting the weights. Or maybe some biscuits 'n' gravy. Quote
BengalPappaw Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Forget Miller !!! For now -- he's not ready either.Back to the orginal topic -- why don't the Bengals give Thurman a four year contract? Because they will have to pay him BIG money for the second contract and so the fifth year will get expensive. Come on Katie settle that contract NOW and lets get Thurman on the field! Quote
HoosierCat Posted July 29, 2005 Author Report Posted July 29, 2005 per bengals.com today, Miller may need more surgical work...Meet the new season, same as the old seasson: injuries all around. Quote
Brownflushitdown Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 they will not cut nate webster because he resigned for the minimum now tell me why they would cut it makes no sense Quote
