BENGAL
I couldn't help but chuckle as I read through the discussion (or should I say argument) pertaining to Kevin Walter and Cliff Russel...mostly Walter. Someone happened to throw out the name WALTERBOYS or fans of Kevin Walter (I think it was membengal). Anyway, I would like to declare myself a WALTERBOY!!!! I think that Kevin Walter is a tough young player with lots of potential. He has made a few great plays (although we have not seen too much of him on offense) and I can't help but think that there is more to come from KWalt!!!! I am NOT starting this post to begin yet another argument but say that I am a proud WALTERBOY!!!! Any other WALTERBOYS out there????

redsbengalsbucks
Maybe it is just that I see his bad games but he seems to drop more passes than he catches, good on special teams, but T. Perry can and should replace him if he shows anything on special teams in preseason. You can't keep a WR around just to play special teams!!! If he's a special teams leader, I bet Marvin doesn't care if he catches 2 passes all season. It's funny how we fans complained about the special teams for so many years. Now that we have a good special teams, alot of fans are putting on the bottom of the priority list again.FACT: Not all players excel at special teams. You cannot just put whoever there and expect your average field position and your opponents field position to be in your favor.I don't really care who you have at the 6th WR position, Walter or not, I guarantee you that they don't catch more than a handful of passes all year anyway. So, do you want someone on the bench that is average at special teams, or someone like Walter that excels at special teams?
walshfan
Going into camp Id say the depth chart is as follows:ChadTJWarrickHenryWashingtonTab PerryWalterRussellCherryso that leave Walter the odd man out as of now...His special team play could land him the 6 spot if Warrick or Washington look bad in preseason....the jury is still out on Tab Perry as well.. He has to show he can handle to KO return job or Russell could move back in that role... Its going to be interesting to watch this play out. Why would you rather Perry over Walter? Perry hasn't shown he can do anything. I would rather have a guy who is a madman on special teams, who knows our offense, and who may just turn out to be one hell of a receiver as well... BengalByTheBay
The problem I see with all these WR threads is that we haven't seen Henry or Perry yet. I would say Walter is a known quantity. Russell is a known quantity. That said, you can't cut your 3rd rounder in his first season so Henry obviously sticks. I saw a lot of Perry at UCLA, but hell, who knows how he's going to fit into this system? If he's relatively productive in camp/preseason, Walter's going to have a hard time. Sure, Walter plays special teams, but he's hardly the ace. Myles is that guy. Walter has value, which is why he was on the squad last year. Perry will have to play teams to stick, but that could be due to his return skills. Don't get me wrong, I loved Danny Farmer when he was here too because he was a gamer. I figure that's the same way a lot of you WALTERBOYS feel about Walter. You saw what happened to Farmer, however. If pressed, I would have to say that talent will beat out heart most likely in this scenario. But I have to actually see Perry play some before I could make that call. cincyhokie
Actually, I'm waiting for Washington to show his worth. I see him as the odd man out.
DesperateDerelict
Walter-boys? Is Adam Sandler a member? How abou 83-Skidoo's?!? Kevin's Corner? Walter under the Bridge?"Talking" about who may or may not make the team prior to Training camp has become exceedingly boring, so I think obscure fan clubs are a great idea. I'll start a fan club for Mathias now => the Askewed Members!!!

Actually, Marvin said the exact opposite immediately after the draft when explaining why Tab Perry was selected.
HairOnFire
I could be mistaken but I thought I was the guy who came up with the Walterboyz nickname. I guess I could scroll back through my old posts to confirm this, but let's be honest...even I can't stand reading my prententious ramblings. That said, I'll sue the first person who makes a dime off of Walterboyz T-shirt sales.
