1. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Cincinnati

System: 6

Role: 5

Talent: 6

Yardage: 8

Touchdown: 9

Total: 34

The fourth-year Bengal receiver emerged last season after injuries derailed his '03 season when he played only two games. Starting 13 games last season, Houshmandzadeh emerged as the Bengals' No. 2 receiver with 73 catches for 798 yards and four touchdowns, replacing the injured Peter Warrick. He had two stellar back-to-back games in Weeks 13 and 14, totaling 22 catches for 316 yards and one touchdown. He offers size (6-1 and 197 pounds) opposite No. 1 receiver Chad Johnson. As Carson Palmer enters the upper echelon of quarterbacks, he'll be looking for Houshmandzadeh as one of the primary targets. Grab him as your third receiver and you'll receive stats worthy of a No. 2 wideout.

keep in mind these are all fantasy rankings, not reality rankings

You do realize that if a guy is valuable on a fantasy team, it is BECAUSE he is gaining yardage and scoring touchdowns, right?

The man has a point

I think he was speaking more about the defense. A good fantasy defense is not necessarily a good NFL defense.

Now that IS true. However, defenses make hay in fantasy football based on turnovers and touchdowns. If you have a defense doing well in fantasy ball, they usually aren't BAD on the field.

Lets look at our defense last year. They couldn't stop the run and we went 8-8, but the turnovers we had gave us good fantasy points. If we capitalized on those turnovers more, we would have had a better record.

Also, defenses are penalized for allowing too many points. Hrmn allow a lot of points, lose the real game....

That is exactly what I was talking about. The defense in fantasy has everything to do with points scored and turnovers. We were great at turnovers last year, but that doesn't mean they think our defense is that good. Thanks for pointing that out Derek. Defense doesn't get pentilized that heavily for points scored against.

On the ESPN radio show Sports bash, Erick Kuselius (sp) has Shaun Salisbury on to talk fantasy football, and was asking him about sleeper QB's. Shaun talked about guys like Kerry Collins, and Eric said that his sleeper was Carson Palmer. Shaun's response was "I thought we were talking about sleepers".

It's nice to hear CP getting enoug hrespect that some people don't even consider him a sleeper (albeit a USC guy)
