Gunn27
I live in Omaha Nebraska and recently went into a thrift shop. I picked up what looked like a game used jersey. I thought that it belonged to former Bengals DB Lance Gunn. After further review I'm not sure what I have here. The jersey is black, #27, has Gunn on a nameplate sewn on back. It also has the 75th anniversy patch. At the bottom of the jersey it says Champion size 46 and seems to have alot of extra length. There is also a tag by the size tag that says "designed and tailored exclusively for the Cincinnati Bengals 1994."Whats really throwing me off is the stripes on the sleeves. The stripe pattern is white, orange, white. (as opposed to the bengal print stripes I have usually seen) Also, there is no number on the sleeves.I know Gunn didn't play for the Bengals in 1994 during the regular season. Are the preseason jerseys different from the regular season jerseys? Do I have a 1993 jersey?, a practice jersey from 1994? or a preseason 1994 jersey? Or do I just have a regular store bought jersey? Any ideas or info is appreciated. Thanks a ton.
HairOnFire
No disrespect intended, but wasn't Lance Gunn a Saturday morning television show starring a bunch of chimpanzees pretending to be secret agents?

Based on the description it does sound like a real game jersey other than the part about the white stripes and the numbers.According to the Bengals media guide they used the same uniform design from 1981 through 1996. Also Lance Gunn is listed as playing in 1993 only.Perhaps it is a preseason jersey from 1994 and he was cut before the start of the 1994 season. Also see if it has a patch that says "Koch's Sporting Goods" near the Champion patch. They make the jerseys for the team and I know that you used to be able to buy custom-made or random jerseys off the rack in the store. I am still puzzled about the stripes though. Dadraftnick
I have game worn jersey from 95 and it has that patch that says taylored and designed exclusively for the cincinnati bengals .So I would say its authentic ,it sounds to me like it may have been a sample uniform ,something that they were looking at as a uniform change.Maybe it was for special games like the orange jerseys are and was never OK'ed since there wasn't a chance in hell of getting a Monday game then.Or maybe it was a screw up some one used the wrong color and they shipped it anyway so the bengals could get a look at it to see if they liked it.Good luck getting anything out of the bengals.com or the enquirer .I tried to find out something out on mine and no one has the time to help. rob_justdmb
The stripes means it is 94 jersey used week 3 vs. the Patriots when they were the throwback unis at home and lost 31 - 28.http://www.justdmb.com/bokon/game/1994/94-03necin.htmthere is my game page for that game. does the jersey look like that? Hey Rob, I'm not sure if he means "tiger stripes" of the regular uni or the bar stripes of the throwback uni when he says white and orange stripes. I think your idea might be the answer except that Lance Gunn only played in 1993.So here's my take on your idea. If this is a throwback uni, then they were probably made before Gunn was cut before the season started. Someone might have bought it off the rack at Koch's since he was no longer a player.BTW, great pictures of Klingler. Clueless as ever.... rob_justdmb
that was actually Kilingler's best game as a Bengal. There is also the possibility that because it was game 3, maybe he did play the first few games, then was released and the sites don't reflect that, or maybe he was inactive or whatever. The jersey size is too small to be an actual game used jersey. A 46 is very small these days, maybe sizes were different then, but my 1998 Greg Myers jersey is a 52 and is tight on me, I wear no pads, and I'm about 230. Sometimes you see Boomer '94 Jet throwback authentic throwback jerseys on ebay. I assume it was made at a store like Koch's by a fan for himself. Gunn27
Rob, thanks for the post. That is the exact jersey I have. I appreciate you taking the time to look into this for me. I appreciate everyone else who offered ideas and information as well. I wonder what happen with Gunn's career. Does anyone know that? Was he cut during preseason of 94?, or on Injured Reserve during the 94 season? If I remember right he was a good college player and a regular starting on Defense during the 93 season. It seems pretty odd that a rookie starter wouldn't be able to find someplace to play at all the following season. A final question, how in the world did this thing end up in a thrift shop in Omaha, Nebraska? Just kidding. Once again, thanks all for your help. rob_justdmb
It's cool. I'm a hardcore Bengal game tape collector and have a page like that for every game I have. Next time I check that one out, I'll keep an eye out for him, but I think the jersey is too small to actually be his.
Gunn27
Actually its probably about the right size for him. It says size 46 but it has a ton of extra length added. I'm 6'1 200 built about the size of an early 90's D-Back. It fits way to big on me to wear around. But if I was to be wearing pads and tuck it in, It would be about right.
