BengalszoneBilly Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I was first thinking of starting this thread out as a "Bengals Receivers Coach Hue Jackson Not Getting Props For The Job He's Done!" kind of deal, when I discovered in his bio the he and Carson Palmer go back. Waaayyyy back! Jackson spent 14 years as a college coach before joining the Redskins. His last college post was as offensive coordinator for the University of Southern California from 1997-2000. Jackson’s duties in his last three years at USC included the recruiting and early development of Bengals QB Carson Palmer, No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. Palmer came to USC in 1998. Jackson began his coaching career in 1987 at his alma mater, the University of the Pacific. Now how sweet is it to have a coach that is VERY familiar with the teams starting QB's abilities, and is now able to groom the teams receiving corps appropriatelyto match those of the QB. I think the job his guys did last season:Houshmandzadeh teamed with standout Chad Johnson, who earned his second straight starting berth in the Pro Bowl, to form arguably the best WR tandem for a season in franchise history. Johnson had 1274 receiving yards, and his combined total of 2252 with Houshmandzadeh was the most for any duo in club history, topping the 2174 of Johnson and Warrick from 2003. Johnson had a career-high 95 catches, and his combined total of 168 with Houshmandzadeh was just one short of the record 169 posted by Johnson and Warrick in ’03. Houshmandzadeh’s 978 total represented the closest run in Bengals history to having two 1000-yard receivers in the same season. Also last season, No. 3 WR Kelley Washington improved both his catch and yardage totals from his 2003 rookie campaign. ...should garner him more props from us Bengal fans. A tip-o-my-hat to Hue! schweinhart Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 And an overdue Bon Voyagie to Alex Wood.Maybe if Zampese bolts next year, the Bengals got themselves a WR/QB coach in house.Gotta like the CP's chances to go completely over the top this year w/ everything in place, including Hue, the WR corps, the intact O-line, the RBs. Now, if only Brat don't freak out when it's on the line. Quote
The Big Orange Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Man, I wish Zampese would get promoted to O Coordinator...I'm a big fan of this guy...not so much of Brat...and you get a real sense that Hue and Ken are on the same wave length. Quote
Rimington over Marino Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 The key to all this. Zampese and Jackson in house finally give Bratkowski coaches that are on the same wavelength. They know the offense in and out. Better than Anderson and whoever was here before as recievers coach. I can not remember. The key now is to have 4 healthy recievers interchangeable one as good as the next. 3 wide is the way to go now in the NFL. Good to have the extra to rotate in and keep them fresh. Now with CJ, TJ, Warrick and Henry, KW as spares they will all be ready to go in December. By December Henry will be over most of the rookie stuff. Quote

Zampese taking over the O-Coordinator job next year is not out of the question if Brat fails to put alot of points on the board... This team is structured to outscore teams...Anything less than averagaing 25 points a game if the featured players are healthy is unacceptable.... Quote

Well if and when Marvin Lewis finally finishes construction of the defense, such as one he's been known for constructing in the past with Baltimore and Washington, and combine that with the offense, with all it's firepower, and it starts to click as it did right before his injury in New England...the Bengals should outscore most teams by good margins. They should beat other teams by HUGE 35-10 MARGINS! Key word in that paragraph: SHOULD.How great would it be for Bengal fans to be able to relax with a lead in the 4th quarter knowing the defense AIN'T gonna go and give it up! With the additions made in the defense this off season, I wanna see those guy's out there BREAKIN" fools in half! The kind of punishment that hasn't been seen in Cincy since David freakin' Fulcher was the most feared SS in all of football! Does anyone else here want to see a fearsome Cincinnati defense? Something that'll make even Baltimore fans sit back and go "Damn! I wish our "D" played like that!" Well I DO! :player: Quote

Team and COACHING chemistry must go hand in hand. Quote
Columbusbengal Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Man, I wish Zampese would get promoted to O Coordinator...I'm a big fan of this guy...not so much of Brat... I agree Big Orange. I suspect Marvin has held onto Brat because the offensive players are comfortable with that offense. Now that the players will have some continuity with each other and more experience with NFL speed (in the case of the younger players), hopefully he will consider a change to Zampese. Quote

Honestly I would hope the trio of Ken Zampese/Bob Bratkowski/Hue Jackson would work as the offensive equivelent of the Marvin Lewis/Chuck Bresnahan/Rick Hunley defensive trio! Offensively and defensively, their strengths and weaknesses are varied. Also after researching the history of all these aforementioned names, they are quite respectable in their own rights! Quote
