Defender
They're replacing him with Jerry Narron? Who the F is Jerry Narron?
Kirkendall
Narron -- ...been on the Reds Major League coaching staff since December 2003 as Miley's bench coach. During the 2001 and 2002 seasons, Narron managed in the Major Leagues for the Texas Rangers. He also managed 4 seasons in the minor leagues for affiliates of the Baltimore Orioles.Narron spent the 2003 season as bench coach under Boston Red Sox manager Grady Little and was a coach for the Rangers from 1995-2001. While he coached at Texas, the Rangers won the American League West Division 3 times (1996, '98, '99).

Kirkendall
Keep in mind, both are interim, nothing about a permanent replacement. Both info above was found at http://www.lance1360homer.com/2005/06/mile...ullett-out.html

Kirkendall
More on Ruhle from a family member that's lived in Houston most of his life. "Ruhle is very competent and a good guy. He's a good choice. However, any pitching coach in Cincy right now is going to have a hard time. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken s**t."Classic. Yet, true. CBin2k7
It's funny that they would do this now. Just seems to me that the main culpret that is still here is John Allen. How has he survived all this time. They were talking on the broadcast last night that Reds pitchers don't have a chance at succeeding in Coors field east.Well funny, Chris Carpenter sure did a good job last night. In a homerun ballpark you get ground ball pitchders.
bengal4life
CINCINNATI -- The struggling Reds dismissed manager Dave Miley and replaced him with interim manager Jerry Narron on Tuesday, the latest and most significant in a long line of personnel shakeups in this '05 season. Pitching coach Don Gullett was also removed. He'll be replaced through the end of the season by Minor League pitching coordinator Vern Ruhle. Cincinnati Reds general manager Dan O'Brien will officially announce the personnel changes at a 3 p.m. ET press conference at Great American Ball Park. The 49-year-old Narron becomes the 58th manager in Reds history and the 48th since 1900. He has been on the Reds' Major League coaching staff since December 2003 as Miley's bench coach. Narron was the Rangers' manager in 2001 and 2002. He also spent four seasons managing Minor League affiliates of the Orioles. He spent the 2003 season as bench coach under Red Sox manager Grady Little and was a coach for the Rangers from 1995-2001. While he coached at Texas, the Rangers won the American League West title three times (1996, '98 and '99). Ruhle was hired by the organization in 2004 as pitching coach at Rookie Billings. He has seven years of experience as a Major League pitching coach with the Astros (1997-2000), Phillies (2001-02) and Mets (2003). Miley was named Reds manager on July 28, 2003, and compiled a 125-164 (.433) record during parts of three seasons. The team entered this season with expectations of competing in the NL Central, but it compiled a 27-43 record under Miley's tenure.I think this was the best way togo for the reds, what do you all think? Kirkendall
My question is what lineup will Narron have? Who will be the first baseman? Who will be the catcher? What will the starting rotation be? Most likely, nothing above will change.Try this on for a second.Miley was not O'Brien's guy. However, Narron was manager when O'Brien was in Texas... correct? I don't like the way this is going...Is now the example of the Bengals 30-3 loss in 2002 on Sunday night football against the Atlanta Falcons? (that game is when the entire national media focused on Bengals football and my example of when things began to turn around in terms of Mike Brown's team philosophy). jditty47
im glad they got fired. now maybe we can start over and get rid of some ppl like griffey/casey and get some gd pitchers.
CBin2k7
How do you fire the pitching coach and the manager, and not fire the hitting coach. I don't care how many times you watch the Reds offense score 5 runs. Any time they face a decent pitcher they usually score 3 or less. They can't hit behind runners and they can't get runners in from 3rd base with less than two outs. How does Chris Chambliss still have his job. Fire the bullpen coach too, and the base coaches. Let Narron pick his own staff.
7/11
i just hope we hire from OUTSIDE the club for once....same thing we did with the bengals- we brought in people who were not accustommed to the ineptitude of cincy pro franchises to show us how the rest of the league are doin things. o'brien was a good start, but unless we hire from successful ball clubs, and not from within our dips**t tee-ball franchise, we are not goin to know how to run a "real" franchise. that'd be the only reason i wouldn't want barry larkin back in the clubhouse runnin this club... BINGO Cap'n !As usual .... the guys who are doing the firing are the ones who should have been fired themselves. Any action on buyers for the Reds yet ????? Heard about the minority owners selling off their shares ... and then it just kinda went away. ????????

bengalindian
I read in the Enquirer about how Jim Leyland and Lou Piniella were candidates for the permanent job, and Narron said how he might bring in Grady Little as a bench coach. I definitely agree with bringing someone in from outside the organization, but the I would be willing to wait if they did a total overhaul and got rid of everyone, starting from the top. I believe thats the only way for the Reds to stop giving us false hope every season. Can Bengals season come soon enough?
walkthechalk
I haven't ever really been interested in the Reds, but I'm glad to hear that Narron is interim manager. My aunt dated him for awhile and I got to meet him, and he's a really good guy. He has a great coach-y personality and I think he'll push the players. The_Next_Big_Thing
I still say they are interviewing Keanu Reeves, Walter Mathau, and Tom Hanks! I mean sure, they only know what the script told them about baseball when they coached in the movies, but it's about what the coaching we have right now is! We need a pitcher not a pitcher of lemonaide!
Rimington over Marino
Walter Matthau might have trouble managing from the grave.
