andybren Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 So first jjakq27 reports from the Enquirer get-together that, according to Curnette, Washington is "on the bubble".Then, if you read this article on Bengals.com, Hobson follows 9 paragraphs about Washington's new-improved physical condition and 4 paragraphs about how Tab Perry is behind because he missed voluntaries, with this interesting little zinger...The receiver competition is already at warp speed. Johnson, Houshmandzadeh, Henry and Perry lead the pack.So essentially K-Dub is behind BOTH rookies, including the one that wasn't even allowed to work out with the team. And I don't know how much K-Dub's making this year, but it stands to reason it's significantly more than what the 6th round rookie will sign for. If he can't even beat out Tab Perry, the Squirrel is history. Regardless of what happens with Warrick. And by the way, if you wonder what it must be like to be a 'journalist' working for the organization you supposed to be reporting on...consider what it must be like to write an upbeat feature on a guy you secretly think is going to be out of a job in a few weeks. What sort of hell is that punishment for? Quote
KiLBurn Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 I went to the "open house" practice today at PBS and the receiver that I think is not making the roster is P-Dub. I watched him for a while working on the sidelines with the conditioning coach. Dub's right knee just does not look good. The coach set up like 7-10 little obstacles for the players to run through, sorta like the "tires", and Warrick knocked over 4 of the obstacles with his right leg. Quote
jjakq27 Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 I was there too. I'm not sure about PDub yet. He looked pretty good on the straight ahead pass catching drills. KDub dropped a few long passes but I'm not sure if they are his fault or not. He looked pretty ripped though. I think they should ask this guy to bulk up and maybe play TE pr something. He's got some skills but he is not a burner as a WR. Quote
Kazkal Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 If he would step up on special teams there would be no doubt in my mind about marvin keeping him,He may have only had 2 300+ seasons but the 3rd year tends to be break out year for receivers so I say we keep him Quote
Kazkal Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 Woulden't it make more sense to have Brandon(or was it bobby) williams to do the kickoff returns sense hes our fastest guy and all + he could be our 4th CB that way Quote
schweinhart Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 Hard to believe P-Dub could ever be back close to what he was in terms of quickness of cuts and stops. Bengals seem like they'll give him every op to prove himself, which they should given his committment to the team in the 2003 playoff run.Still, gotta think P-Dub tops the WR list for cuts.Reports of a souring K-Dub seem like they first popped up a couple months ago. Clearly, he lacks the separation skills to consistently be an over the middle threat but he does battle well on long throws. His focus seems at issue too. So was Housh's this time last year, though.Maybe both Dubs go and the Bengals keep Walter and one of the unlikelier WRs like J-Cock, Broussard, or Milons. Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 What sort of hell is that punishment for? Possibly for being a Browns fan earlier in life? I know I've been punished for it! Quote

Rimington over Marino Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 All of us born before 1960 were at one time Browns fans. No Bengals before 1968. At 10 years old I had my Leroy Kelly and Paul Warfield cards as my favs. I was more an OSU fan with John Brockington and Jack Tatum. They won the National Title with them. All the former Buckeyes were my favorite players. Like Dick LeBeau. Quote

Ive been thinking the same thing about Warrick and Washington...I now Walter has made plans to visit a speed velocity camp in New York soon and Matt Cherry keeps catching everyone's eye with his route running......You never know with Marvin... He doenst play the favorite card..You have to earn it and maybe Walter and Cherry will emerge victorious.... Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 Just remember, this time last year, "the writing was on the wall" for TJ.... Quote
TecmoFever Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 Just remember, this time last year, "the writing was on the wall" for TJ.... It is so easy to forget about this fact, and it seems like everyone has. We were ALL calling for TJ's departure, and I think we may have even made a snide remark or two about his ponytail. What a difference a year makes!I, for one, am hopeful that P-Dub can somehow get healthy because having him healthy in the slot makes our WR corps scary. That being said, when I hear reports about him kicking over cutting obstacles, I get a lot nervous. Quote
jjakq27 Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Just remember, this time last year, "the writing was on the wall" for TJ.... Tjs trump card was that he returned kicks as well as playing WR. KDub has no extra bag of tricks. Quote
BENGAL Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 So who do ya'll think will stick at receiver???? Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 What sort of hell is that punishment for?Possibly for being a Browns fan earlier in life? I know I've been punished for it! wow were you? **sob** Yes! I admit it! I was a CLEVELAND BROWNS FAN!! **sob** A low down dog of a sinner my whole football watching life, all the way up until the end of 1967. Then in 1968 something very profound changed my life forever! I was REBORN when I hit the altar in the birth of the Bengals! I cast off my sins of the past, and have NOT backslid since! Halleluja brothers and sisters! Can I get an AMEN on that!?! Okay, okay...that's a little thick. It boils down to this jditty. I was alive before there was such a thing as the Cincinnati Bengals. Before that, the next closest team to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky was the Browns. I rooted for them briefly and Jim Brown is still the best RB I ever saw. No RB's since except Walter Peyton, Barry Sanders, and Emmitt Smith come close to the level he established. Corey Dillon can't even can't carry Jim's jockstrap. I watched Paul Brown coach another team other than Cincinnati. It happened, and I was there to see it. I wouldn't trade it for anything, not even watching the Bengals beat Arizona in Detroit this coming January.Oops!! I spilled the beans!well is one of the senior members of the board so i bet he was around before the bengals so who do you cheer for then, the browns?Uh Griz, check your member number versus mine. You are much more "senior" here than I! Quote
