membengal
Surprised there has not been more chatter about this yet... http://www.bengals.com/press/news.asp?iCur...=0&news_id=2958I would run through a wall for Marvin Lewis. And I am just an obsessive fan. God knows how badly his players want to win for him.Everytime someone gets panicky about Mike Brown, they should read the above. It is abundantly clear that ML has his finger all over the moves this franchise has been making and will be making.Oh, and he sounds as hepped up as he is ever gonna about Thurman and Pollack.Check the bit about Kevin Greene coming in to work with Pollack.I will sleep happy tonite. My favorite part:"GH: Obviously, you don’t want to compare a rookie to a Hall of Famer. We can’t and we won’t. But Thurman does give you that same style of sideline-to-sideline, intensity you had in the middle in Baltimore in Ray Lewis.ML: Just like when you’re in business or whatever you’re doing, you’re always going to be drawn to certain traits that you feel are going to be successful. In Odell, there are certain traits, just like with Ray Lewis there were certain traits. The magnetism of a Greg Lloyd. The ability to overcome obstacles and play football at a very, very high level. That’s very similar to Greg. As you go forward and you look at guys, from Lloyd to (Peter) Boulware to Pollack, Kevin Greene, all of those guys. You’re looking for the same kind of individuals.GH: You just had Lloyd and Greene back here for your golf tournament last month. Linebackers that you coached when you were in Pittsburgh.ML: Kevin wants to come back and spend time with David and that’s a good thing. He’s excited to do it. As a mentor/consultant type of thing. I think Kevin flirts with the idea of being a coach when he gets a little older. Last year he spent lot of time with Dick (LeBeau) over there in Pittsburgh. He was going to go for a week and ended up staying for three. So Tara, his wife, this year told him he can’t do the same thing. Speaking with (Hall-of-Famer) Ted Hendricks, Ted Hendricks just loves David Pollack. He and his wife talked about how much they enjoyed meeting David Pollack (at the Anthony Munoz Foundation golf tournament).GH: Last week you said Pollack and Thurman, look to be first day starters. Do you have a concern starting rookies at linebacker? Could it be the best move ultimately, but you may suffer in September and October?ML: No."Bring. On. The. Season. jjakq27
that last question was the best.No. If that is his answer, then he must think that Clemons and Hardy really sucked last year. Glad to see he is coming around to our way of thinking.

Glad to see he is coming around to our way of thinking. Based on the draft, I would say he came around to our way of thinking long ago. He said over and over again last year that the DL was not the problem...and the two new linebackers along with only one change at DL seem to underscore that. UofLnMU
Marvin Lewis came around to Marvin Lewis' way of thinking. Happily, that coincided with our way of thinking.

bengalskyspy
I also find it interesting how he pumped up Chris Perry---"one of the most talented guys here." And more. Find it hard to believe he is just covering up for what many thought was a poor 1st round choice last year. I hope we get to see some of CP this year. If he is healthy, he could be a huge weapon in an offense with lots of weapons.
KYBENGALFAN
I' m so hyped about the upcoming season. WHO DEY !!! My birthday is in two weeks and my wife said it was OK to send away for my #99 David Pollack jersey now... WHO DEY !!! I already have an #85 Chad Johnson, but I might put that one into semi-retirement, because I really like what I see from Pollack so far... This will be the year the Bengals make the playoffs, I really believe... Wild card or division winner, this will be the year.. WHO DEY !!! :player: :player: :player: :player:

rlmeyers
A couple of things...Pollack's number won't be 99 unless he is listed as a defensive lineman. Otherwise he has to choose a number in the 50's. You might not want to spend that dough before the season starts.Second thing... When you think of ML's comment about Chris Perry, you need to think CP is to the Bengals and Palmer as Brian Westbrook is to the Eagles and McNabb. Perry has the talent to be a four tool player like Westbrook...Between the tackles, edge speed, great hands and solid blocker. :player:

Actually Linebackers are allowed numbers in the 90's as well as the 50's so I'd expect Pollack to keep the 99 especially since they have been hawking those jerseys.... jditty47
ya, they can be in the 90's i believe if all 50's are taken, which i believe they are.
HairOnFire
That's got to be the most meat-filled Marvin Lewis interview I've read in some time. Loved the bit about Kevin Greene coming in to tutor Pollack as well as the bit about Lewis sitting down with Pollack in a film room and Pollack being able to relate within 5 minutes about how the defense broke down and could be fixed. I know the proof will come later, but this has to be about the 20th time I've read where Lewis has claimed Pollack and Thurman are developing ahead of schedule. Something tells me that Lewis doesn't hand out empty praise or window dressing very often so I'm going to believe him when he says they'll be ready to go day one. UofLnMU
Just when I thought that the uniform number issue would have been put to bed. Even if he changes numbers, it'll be a neat "I-was-all-up-on-Pollack-since-day-one" type deal. A real limited edition--just like my David Klingler autograph where he added #15, before he changed unis. That's got to add something to the collectibility. DontPushMe
Based on the draft, I would say he came around to our way of thinking long ago. He said over and over again last year that the DL was not the problem...and the two new linebackers along with only one change at DL seem to underscore that.1 change at DL? We have 2 new starters, and the otther 2 are in different places from last year. How is that 1 change?GH: He’s got to be frustrated. ML: He’s only frustrated because people talk about him for no reason. That’s where his only frustration comes. He can’t miraculously make himself well. All he did was get hurt. He played great for us when he got a chance to play, before he hurt his abdominal muscles. Before that, he played outstanding. He did great things for us. Enough said. GH: If he’s healthy, he’s a big factor in the passing game, isn’t he? ML: A big factor in everything. He’s one of the most talented guys we have in this building. He has an opportunity to compete with Kenny, Rudi, all of them to see who the best guys are. ^^^ THANK YOU. I want all of you to read this over and over untill your opinion on Perry changes. Hes not a bust, and you can tell in reading that that even ML believes perry will take over as the starting RB soon.Chris Perry >>>> Rudi Johnson
andybren
Interesting what ML said about multiple looks on defense -- that if you have good players you don't need to have go multiple. And that he doesn't see the need for his team to get overly complex. That's certainly a different point of view than some of the talk around here. Please note that ML says first that Perry will have an OPPORTUNITY to compete with KENNY, Rudi.In other words, right now he's not the #2 guy, and even if he's not injured, he's competing with Kenny Watson for carries.Personally, I think you are reading into his statement that Perry is better than Johnson, and will be taking over starting soon. This is just typical Marvinspeak. In other words, you'll see Perry when you see Perry, and everyone is competing for a job.
HairOnFire
Most opinions about Perry don't need to be changed since few of us are stupidly claiming that Perry is better than Rudi. Most of us are simply waiting to see if Perry can produce enough to justify the keystrokes wasted on him. Frankly, I could probably like the idea of having Perry in stripes alot better if fugtards like DPM didn't bash Rudi just to make an argument for 2-Carry Perry. Spain
Pefect, make it simple let them play just do it better than anyone else. Reminds me of self defense, learn four moves burn them in your muscle memory and you will bet any man. Sometimes its how good you do things and not so much what you do.
