DesperateDerelict Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 Heres' the link -Bengals Report on FOX Sportsand here's the story -Team Report Posted: 5 hours ago The top two draft picks, LBs David Pollack and Odell Thurman, have seized starting positions in the wake of Kevin Hardy's release and Landon Johnson's rehabilitation from shoulder surgery. Both have picked up the defense quickly, and the chemistry they developed as teammates at Georgia has carried over because they communicate so well. Thurman has a natural feel for the middle and is comfortable there. He's showing excellent speed, quickness and instincts in his ability to find the ball and clog the middle. . . .As the only veteran not participating in voluntary workouts, DE Duane Clemons is on the hot seat. RE Robert Geathers and LE Justin Smith are the starters now, so Clemons has a lot of ground to make up. He's still an effective pass rusher, but his struggles against the run forced him out of the starting lineup. If he makes the team, he'll have to accept a reduced role. . . .Keep an eye on tiny WR Jamall Broussard (5-9, 175), who re-signed with the club after Carolina plucked him off the practice squad last season. Broussard is a speedy, crafty player whose size makes him ideally suited for the slot. He'll struggle against physical corners who jam him at the line of scrimmage. So it's important for the club to be creative and get him the ball in space, where he can use his electrifying stop-and-start quickness and acceleration. If he improves his concentration and ball security, and his strengths are utilized, Broussard can become a star. SCOUTING REPORT: OLB Marcus Wilkins, the club's leading tackler on special teams in 2004, played so well in kickoff and punt coverage that he's earned the right to get more chances in the base defense. He's quick off the ball, shows an explosive first step and has a nice closing burst to the quarterback. His speed allows him to be effective in space, but he struggles to fight through traffic when he's forced to take on blocks from massive offensive linemen. Wilkins has added some bulk but kept all his quickness. That will help him become a more productive run stopper. He'll back up Pollack on the strong side and continue in his role as a gunner in coverage. REHAB UPDATE: All indications are that WR Peter Warrick and TB Chris Perry won't be medically cleared for the club's mandatory full-squad minicamp (June 17-19). However, both are expected to be 100 percent by the July 29 start of training camp. Warrick, who is recovering from a shin fracture below his left knee and soreness in his right knee, is expected to be the No. 3 receiver operating from the slot. His devastating quickness presents matchup problems for linebackers and safeties. Perry, who underwent two surgeries for a sports hernia, must lose 10 pounds in order to regain the speed he's lost. A valuable weapon as a runner and receiver when healthy, he'll provide a change of pace as the top backup to bruising TB Rudi Johnson. OFFENSIVE TACKLES ANALYSIS: Grade: A-. LT Levi Jones and Pro Bowl RT Willie Anderson are strong, athletic bookends who excel in protecting QB Carson Palmer and opening holes for TB Rudi Johnson. Stacy Andrews and Adam Kieft should be solid backups. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 I don't like the fact that neither Warrick or Chris Perry will be ready for minicamp. Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 I don't like the fact that neither Warrick or Chris Perry will be ready for minicamp.Me neither but I think they are being overly cautious with them to avoid any set backs like last season and to make sure they are not going to re-aggravate anything....hate to state the obvious but there's no point in pushing them at this point still, I think it's just a case of not making the same mistake twice with them.
