Agreed. It will all depend on how much Bresnahan chooses to blitz him. But personally I don't really care. Sacks are fun, because there is nothing better than giving the opposing team a loss of yards by hitting the QB in the mouth, but that was already Hardy's strength at OLB.

What makes Pollack an upgrade from Hardy is his speed, acceleration and agility. He's going to have to be speedier and more jump-oriented since he'll be coving tight ends and tailbacks on pass plays. So the stat I would like to see is "how many passes will he break up?" because that will be the true test of his effectiveness at the position.

One word . . . OVER - RATED (Or is it two words? One Hyphenated? Whatever.)

Could we please:

1) Sign Him, hopefully in time for camp.

2) Get him to understand a new position . . .

3) . . . in a new defense with new terminology

4) Get used to the speed and power of the NFL

5) Get time to gel with the rest of the defense

6) then we can canonize him.

Well if he is the joker if I understand this D(which I dont) He si going to be roaming and blitzing from diferent places. Then geathers are Smith will drop into coverage. So he will get about half the opurtunities that an end would get(guessing) So look for 8 IMHO. As far as takles Im thinking a hundred. But if you look at what he will be doing is more run blitzing than pass rushing as the Joker. So you might see him with 25 takles for loss which is just the same as a sack to me. As far as the passing game he is going to drop into coverage so we might see 5-6 interceptions if he is pass d skills are as good as Marvin is touting. So Im expecting Urlacher numbers they way I think their going to use him. IMHO

Um, it's not possible to "overrate" that which we have not seen.

I myself have no idea what his sack total will be and really no way to even hazard anything close to a decent guess, but there is nothing wrong with a thread like this from those who wish to speculate as a means of passing the time during the early June dog days of the off-season.

Don't know about over rated but definitely untested.

Pollack will have a lot more responsibility for where he is on the field at SSLB than he ever did at DE in Jawjuh.

But I like his chances.

4 sacks, 76 tackles, 4 TFL's, and 1 int.

I'd say this is pretty close...I'd go 5-6 sacks (Hardy got 4 in the same position last year and he (Hardy) wasn't known for his sacking ability) so it apears that we may be scheming that way.

I think even switching positions that LB is a position in which rookies can make a bigger impact there 1st year then say QB or WR. I think he'll be higher in tackles...80-90 isn't all that hard at that position, 1 int is about right, and I'm more optimistic about TFL, say 7.

I think Pollack will be one of the first 5 1st rounders to sign.

If the Dr. does put him in DE with Geathers and JS at DT on 3rd down passing plays, then his numbers could mushroom into the unpredictability range.

Big Orange... I have to disagree with you for maybe the first time. Hardy was known for his sacking ability, and in fact that was his primary strength last year after he lost a step (or two). When he was in Jacksonville, I think he got 10 or so one year, and I remember that being one of the things that was going to make our defense better last year... moving Hardy back to OLB with Webster in the middle, so Hardy could get back to his natural position, and sack the QB more often.

Too bad that didn't work out. I hope the hype about our defensive changes this year actually make the difference, because it seemed like a bust last year.

Hey, B.O. -

Is this wishful thinking or do you know something nobody else has heard? Pollack has one of those REALLY big sports agents firms (IMG, IMH, IMF?) and will probably wait as long as possible for favorable 'slotting'.

Big O, I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. I honestly believe DP will have in the range of 7-10, but alot depends on how and where they play him in the D-scheme. Anyway, you just never know....

Way to call me on that Derek...I hadn't done my homework on Hardy...I thought he was primarily brought in for his leadership and veteran presence since the remaining veterans on D... Brian Simmons, Tory James, Thorton, and J Smith weren't very vocal leaders (or are they?). I also thought he was known as a somewhat hard hitter...but I could be wrong.

As far as inside scoop on Pollack, I have none. I just think that he sees that he could be THE leader of this defense in the years to come. I hope that he sees he could be the kind of player that brings in a near selfless, Patriot-style ungreediness to this team which I think others have begun to display.

I think CJ, Housch, Carson, Levi, JSmith, Willie, Tory, and even Rudi show a lot of restraint in keeping money matters on the down-low. I actually think that Chad was the best in this area (and he too has a rather high profile agent). Maybe I just don't know enough, but it seems we are lucky to have a lot of team players.

Maybe it's all just wishful thinking, but I am hoping that all I have seen of Pollack (his refusal to be on Playboy's All-American draft team, amongst other comments he has made about team play and his faith) reveal that he might be the kind of guy that is looking for the opprotunity to lead this team in ungreediness as well.

A guy can hope, right.

And just as I write this I read over at espn.com this stinking article that then scares me to death.

So much for my unselfishness theory.

I don't get why 8+ isen't realistic.

Some high sacks for rookies.

Justin Smith:8.5

Terrell Suggs:12

Peter boulware:11.5

Dwight Freeney:13

So pollack getting atleast 8 seems very possible =P
