What players are better than ours?

Did anyone forget to mention Culpepper, he is a dominant force with his size and mobility. I would put him above Brady as far as numbers go (except ring numbers) I'm not sure but I think he threw for nearly 4000 yards last year without Moss, and like 36 TD's. It is hard to determine who is the best QB just because every QB is deferent in excelling at their own skills. Let me elaborate Brady is a good manager while not putting up many numbers, Peyton has got the pocket mastered, and Mcnabb and Culpepper are excellent at elusiveness, Vick is the master and probably always will be at elusiveness, and Palmer will probably not be a master at any part of the QB position, but what will make him so good is he has a bit of Brady's management, a bit of Manning's accuracy, and a bit of Mcnabb, Culpepper, and Vick's elusiveness, which will make him a star.

Is it August yet?

Hey man, gotta love the Vikings props. I do know the area is a little hesitant, as well as some select media, and don't really know what to expect with a Moss-less team. It's not critical of Culpepper, but he wasn't the entire focus of defense strategy; Moss was. And the time Moss was out due to injury doesn't factor because they didn't have a comparable #2-3 guy that could help re-set the offensive scheme; rather fill-in guys.

One thing about Culpepper is he's a high-percentage guy first, chuck it deep second. And with Moss out of the picture, the high percentage pass is going to get a lot more attention until someone shows a greater deep threat. But Dante, with a great o-line, could reshuffle everyone's "Best QB" list after this season. And if getting into the NFC Championship game, as most expect this season, is what it takes, then Dante will be reason no. 1. The store-bought defense second.

Sorry Mods -- This really has nothing to do with the thread.

(yes, they are #2 on my favs).

RB

1. LaDanian Tomlinson

2. Preist Holmes

3. Jamal Lewis

4. Edgerrin James

5. Clinton Portis

6. Shaun Alexander

7. Ahman Green

8. Corey Dillon

9. RUDI JOHNSON

10. Tiki Barber

(with the exception of Dillon, The guys above Rudi are all guys I would trade him for)

WR

1. Randy Moss

2. Terrell Owens

3. CHAD JOHNSON

4. Marvin Harrison

5. Tory Holt

6. Joe Horn

7. Hines Ward

8. Javon Walker

9. Roy Williams

10. Reggie Wayne

(I think Chad could be among the #1 talks by the end of this year)

I take more than a bit of umbrage with this listing. I really would prefer Rudi to the 5 guys directly above him. Edge is becoming a malcontent, as is Shaun Alexander (I hate to admit it). I think if Rudi was in Portis' place in Denver those years, he would be the marquis back, and Ahman has never really struck me as a "next level" back. Given last year though, even though I wouldn't have Corey back, he may be into that top tier.

I may be a homer, but I've had little reason in the majority of my adult life to be a homer with the Bengals.

And for our system, I want Rudi there more than anyone else. For a fantasy league team, I wouldn't mind LT. ;)

With respect to the WR's, where the hell was I when Joe Horn became the greatest thing since the water closet? Hines Ward could beat him up and take his lunch like it wasn't any thing.

There you go, you said it yourself. If a good RB were in that system, they become a top 5 back right away. Well, I believe the same can be said for our team. Because of our WR's and O-line, a back like RUdi can look really good, but a back with power, and some elusiveness like any of the guys on that list other than Rudi(I think Chris Perry fits that too) would be considered top 5 too.

I don't dislike Rudi. I really liked the way he stepped up when Corey got hurt and pulled his prima dona hissy fit, but if I went completely on talent, Rudi wouldn't be top 10. I think a healthy Chris Perry can be.

Carson palmer belongs in the 12-17 range. No higher, he hasnt proven enough.

RB

LaDanian Tomlinson

Corey Dillon

Preist Holmes

Jamal Lewis

Edgerrin James

Clinton Portis

Shaun Alexander

Ahman Green

Tiki Barber

Kevin Jones

Fred Taylor

Domanick Davis

Willis McGahee

Deuce McAllister

Chris Brown

Brian Westbrook

Curtis Martin

^^^ Those 17 have already proven themselves to be better than Rudi Johnson. No arguement. If Ricky Williams comes back, add another one to that list.

Lamont Jordan

Ronnie Brown

Carnell Williams

Tatum Bell

Julies Jones

Chris Perry

Cedric Benson

^^^ I expect all or most of these players to prove themselves better than him this season.

I dont know what you guys see in RJ that makes you think hes so great. Id take any of the players i listed up there over him any day.

RJ i put in a teir with players like Michael Bennett, Onterrio Smith, Warrick Dunn, Duce Staley, Reuben Doughns. Solid for a while, might even make a pro bowl or 2, mostly one dimensional, and leaves their team in a search for replacements. (ex. chris perry)

Another perspective. Wilkening over at pfw was fiddling around with fantasy draft board -- top 60 -- today.

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/Fanta...ening060305.htm

If you break out RBs they come up like this...12 sounds about right for Rudi.

2. Chiefs RB Priest Holmes

3. Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson

4. Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander

5. Colts RB Edgerrin James — Not a great red-zone back, but he’s likely to approach 2,000 total yards. A safe pick.

8. Packers RB Ahman Green

9. Saints RB Deuce McAllister

10. Patriots RB Corey Dillon

11. Bills RB Willis McGahee

12. Bengals RB Rudi Johnson

15. Redskins RB Clinton Portis — Colleague Jeff Reynolds and I have talked about where to draft Portis. I initially said I would draft him in the top 10 without blinking, but as I kept editing this board, he kept falling and falling …

17. Texans RB Domanick Davis — Such a big scorer down the stretch a season ago, but such a drag early in the campaign.

18. Cowboys RB Julius Jones — Scored a touchdown per game in his last seven starts of 2004.

20. Ravens RB Jamal Lewis

21. Rams RB Steven Jackson — He was the only running back with more than 100 carries to gain 5.0 yards per tote.

22. Lions RB Kevin Jones

23. Jets RB Curtis Martin

24. Raiders RB LaMont Jordan

29. Giants RB Tiki Barber

34. Broncos RB Tatum Bell

35. Eagles RB Brian Westbrook

39. Titans RB Chris Brown

40. Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown

50. Falcons RB Warrick Dunn

52. Jaguars RB Fred Taylor — I had him ranked 10 spots higher on my initial board, but after further review, that was a little too lofty for him as he recovers from offseason knee surgery. However, I am reluctant to pull him from my board; if healthy, he's the most talented back on the roster — and better than any available veteran back. Kudos to reader Rick Dise of Columbus, Ohio, for sending his thoughts on the Taylor issue this morning.

54. Buccaneers RB Cadillac Williams

Chad was the No. 6 receiver off the board (at 26), after Moss, Owens, Harrison, Holt and Walker. That's reasonable.

hes not a top 5 back, mb a top 10 back but 17 guys ahead of him? i dont know bout that....

Look past the number 17, look at each player individually.

LaDanian Tomlinson - no question

Corey Dillon - even the blindest bengal moron wont argue this

Preist Holmes - getting up there, but still better

Jamal Lewis - dominant when on the feild

Edgerrin James - was great this year, returned to his rookie form

Clinton Portis - even in a terrible and confused washington offense, he had a good year

Shaun Alexander - no question here either

Ahman Green - fumbles some, but so does RJ, far more explosive, versitile, and overall good

Tiki Barber - a very underrated RB, can catch like a WR, fumbles less now

Kevin Jones - just as i predicted, the best RB in last years draft, came on strong last year, explosive and powerful

Fred Taylor - one of the most talented backs in the league, injury problems made out to be bigger then they really are

Domanick Davis - this one is a bit iffy, but he is a young back who has been producing, and is versitile

Willis McGahee - anyone who watched him last year knows hes better then RJ

Deuce McAllister - had a down year last year, but still a far better and more complete back then RJ

Chris Brown - looked good this year, seems similar to RJ to me, only more talented

Brian Westbrook - a huge receiving threat, much more complete or a player

Curtis Martin - no question here either, he was amazing this year

again, there are a few there that could be argued, but at least 15 are sure things, and thats not even counting the 5 or 6 that have the potential to pass him up this year, like ive been saying, once you guys step out of your fantasy world, you will realize that rudi johnson isnt all that good, hes a middle of the pack starting RB, thats it
