cbs power rankings

I wish I cared where Prisco ranked teams. In fact, I wish I could get mad at every slight I hear, read or imagined....including those offered simply to sell newspapers. Yup, if I could do that I'm sure life would be more fun. More fizzy. And last, I wish more people wore hats because they look so cool when I watch old movies. As it is, if you wear a fedora these days you're just asking for trouble or making a rap video.

Sure, I know...people wear ballcaps all the time. Some even wear them backwards. But it's not the same. No style. No fizz.

Mark my words, until I see the streets full of dames wearing pillbox hats I'm certain we've lost our way as a people and a nation.

(((Heavy Sigh)))

Sir/Maddame,

Fancy hats are for fancy people. I find that when faced with the sometimes daunting task of chosing a suitable hat, one must consider ones leeaavel of fanciness and hat themself congruently. Backwards Reds hats suit a man of my level while something bearing a white ticket that says 10/6 might be more to your standard. Reguardless, dont hate... Who Freakin Dey

ridiculous. we get absolutley NO respect from the majority of the media.

ravens number 4? WHAT THE ARE THEY SMOKING CAUSE I SHOULD GET SOME! they have kyle boller to lead their team. given i believe QB is the one spot they are missing to be a very good team...boller blows. they said if boller develops to watch out. well, um, if you havent noticed hes been developing for 2 years and has a 68.1 passer rating. in those two season the most yards he put up was 2559 last year(in 16 games started). hes got 20 tds and 20 ints( in both years combined)

carson on the other hand has played ONE season... had a passer rating of 77.3, 18 td and 18 ints (almost as much as boller put up in two seasons) and had 2897 yards passing(more than boller had in his second season of "developing") and this was in 13 games unlike boller in 16 games last year

i remember before the 05 season boller was getting a lot of publicity and people were high on his ass then...well where are they for carson...carson murders bollers rookie and 2nd season

so when they say if boller develops to look out... cause carsons developing WAY faster and we play the s**t birds two times a year.

o how i cant wait for season and the playoffs, hell maybe even the superbowl...down with the media and their crock

23rd...i cant believe that

Uhhhh, it's sir....or if you prefer, dude.

BustyMarvin, I think you've missed my point entirely, probably because you've got your white 4-to-a-box wife beater T-shirt pulled over your eyes. The fact of the matter remains that what is considered fancy today used to be considered mundane. For example, our beloved Paul Brown was hardly a fancy man but he cut a dashing sideline figure when wearing his fedora at a jaunty angle. No ball cap, even those worn backwards by slack-jawed mouth-breathing yokels like yourself, can produce this stunning effect. (No disrespect intended.)

As a Bengals fan, I hate the Ravens. And I agree that #4 is high, but the fact is that they have a much higher number of players who are ranked in the top 5 of their position than the average team. This is why they are always ranked so high.

Ray Lewis - considered the best

Jamal Lewis - only Ladanian and Preist are seen as better

Ed Reed - top 5 safety

Chris McAlister - considered top 2 or 3 CB

Todd Heap - Tony Gonzalez, Jeremy Shockey and now Antonio Gates are the only ones that are seen as better. (Kellen could be if he wasn't an idiot)

Not to mention Peter Boulware and the addition of Derrick Mason.

I'm really not trying to defend a #4 ranking here, but these players are the reasons they are always ranked so high. I mean, even when I look at it, I have to think top 10. Thankfully they consistently underacheive because Boller sucks. And now that Ray Lewis is getting older, their reign of terror in the top half of the rankings will soon be over, and they will be replaced there by the Bengals. Who Dey?!!

oh yeah. I forgot all about Jonathon Ogden. He and Orlando Pace are considered the two best in the league.

Man - when you really take a look at their roster, it's amazing that they were only 9-7 last year. They must have coaching issues. Boller can't be THAT bad can he? Let's hope he is.

Who Dey?!!

:D

When I saw that list, I wondered what my Bengal-fan bretheren would think. As a Giants fan, I was amused to see the Bengals one spot lower than the G-men....didn't Cincinnati win that game last year? And have the better record? In a stronger conference no less? Anyway, Prisco clearly got that one wrong, the Giants free agent activity not withstanding. And the same goes double for the team at #21, Dallas.

I'd say Baltimore is a little higher than they should be too. But for the handful of you that think Cincinnati should be higher than the Ravens... ...Baltimore had the better record and seemingly did more to improve in the offseason, of course Prisco is going to have them ranked higher. Its just common sense.

Just a shame that same common sense isn't more evident throughout that list. Minnesota at #8? Come on, 8-8 in a weak conference gets you to #8? No way, the Bengals are a better team and showed it on the field last year.

Those Power Rankings kill me, there isn't anything quantifiable about it, they're just the random musings of a hack sports writer.

The only thing I will note here re: the Ravens love-in is that yes, they brought in some talent, but they also issued an equal amount of talent out the door. Rolle is nice, but Baxter was nice too. Mason helps at WR, but he is 31 and will have no help (no offense to the rookie, but he is a rookie) and will get doubled a lot. I believe they lost an interior lineman and Hartwell's loss is huge, much bigger than people give credit for.

Just saying, what they brought in, in theory, balances the losses, but I don't see them all as net gains.

Respectfully, after that 4th quarter comeback on the Ravens in Baltimore last year, Bengals fans have every reason to see heir team on an equal footing with Baltimore. I expect the Bengals to pass the Ravens this year.

Hartwell was a big loss for the Ratbirds.

And why switch to a 4-3? If it ain't broke, fix it, I guess.

Their secondary will still be among the league's best but the LB drop-off and their DT rotation won't keep that D at its past level.

The WR position was definietly upgraded but how could it not have been? Mason is aging and Clayton is a rook but they are also the same type of receiver, small and more possession targets than deep threats.

O-line wise, I guess they switch Flynn back to C or else give the job to draft pick Jason Brown. They did sign G Keydrick Vincent from the Steelers but it doesn't look like the line was really upgraded with the loss of Rabach at C and there's not much depth to the line.

IMO the Ratbirds took a step backwards toward 8-8.
