Ox
Bengals.comThis is why Kevin Hardy is the ultimate team player, a football player’s football player, and all the other clichés that are usually empty until a guy like him comes along. On Saturday, he watched the Bengals draft Georgia defensive end David Pollack with their first pick in the draft and then announce they were switching him to outside linebacker amid indications they would insert him in Hardy’s spot on the left side."First-rounders don’t come in to sit,” said Hardy, who says he’s glad to help the transition, on Wednesday. “He’s a Cincinnati Bengal. I’m a Cincinnati Bengal and the goal is to win a championship. But that doesn’t mean I’m just giving up my spot. If I still have a spot to earn and keep, that’s what I plan on doing."Hardy, who turns 32 the week training camp starts, is heading into his 10th season with a run of playing in all but one of the 112 games of the past seven years. He said he hasn’t been told anything yet by the coaches so, “I’m moving forward.” As much as a lot of us would love to see him go, the guy really is a good asset to have on the team. brian5562
I think they need to talk to him about restructing his contract. I personally think we need him back for depth and vetran leadership. Hardy was able to stay healthy last year while everyone else kept getting hurt. Where's the restructured contract if he's such a good guy..??Hardy I could actually care less if he came back, but Peter Warrick is a must for this offense this year. HairOnFire
I think it's up to Hardy if he remains a Bengal. Marvin doesn't seem to be in a hurry to throw him under the bus so it's likely he'll ask him to renegotiate his current contract before cutting him...if that's the plan. As for Pollack, Adam Schefter claims that Pollack popped up huge on Marvins radar several years ago when Lewis was at U of Georgia checking out Boss Bailey. Claimed Lewis felt Pollack stood out as a playmaker and as a on the field leader far more than Bailey did. So how hard did Lewis fall for Pollack? Later Schefter seemed to imply without actually saying it that the Bengals might have been one of the teams that turned down a deal with an Eagle team that was looking to move ahead of Jacksonville for Matt Jones. Schefter quoted Jones as saying that the Eagles offer to move up was turned down by three teams. Now add that to the Bengals admission that they were tempted by...but turned down...an offer of two 2nd round picks for the 17 slot and I think you've got enough pieces to put some things together. Wow, turned down 2 second round picks....?? Fingers Crossed over here.... Hmmmmm... I wonder what the draft could have looked like we took the trade..I'm just saying Fellas, just Saying.... Kirkendall
Well, I think Hardy's atittude is awesome. He knows he's older, we've drafted his position, and he's wanting to keep his job and fight for it. That will only improve the kids, as well as himself. Only good comes out of this. I kinda figured you'd be the guy who jumped on that one. So, what would you have done with the Eagles two second rounders after passing on Pollack? Or in the end do you decide to keep your boy? (Just curious.)

jjakq27
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...280378/1066/SPTThursday, April 28, 2005 Draft not affecting routine for LB Hardy By Mark CurnutteEnquirer staff writerKevin Hardy knows he is entering his 10th NFL season, and last season's starter at strong-side linebacker also knows the Bengals drafted David Pollack in the first round to play outside linebacker."They don't draft guys in the first round to sit," Hardy said Wednesday after completing another workout at Paul Brown Stadium.Though it was rumored he would be released even before the team took linebackers Pollack and Odell Thurman with its first two draft picks, Hardy continues to prepare for the season."Nothing in my mind has changed," he said. "Until I'm told everything different, I'm continuing to come, work (and) get my body in shape for another new year."Hardy was Jacksonville's first-round pick, second overall, in 1996.He started at middle linebacker in his first Bengals season, 2003. Last season, he moved outside and struggled at times. He signed a four-year contract with the Bengals in March 2003 and was paid a $3.5 million signing bonus. With $2.6 million and $3.25 million base salaries due the next two years, chances are Hardy will not play out his contract. If the Bengals release Hardy after June 1 - which allows them to split the remaining signing bonus on the salary cap over two years - the team would save $1.7 million in cap space this year and $2.4 million next year. The possibility is not new to him."I've been around this thing, this will be 10 years for me," Hardy said. "I've seen it. Every year you see it. That's the nature of the business."He's controlling what he can."My body tells me it might be 15 (years) sometimes," Hardy said. "That's the way it goes. That's why this time of the year is so important for me because I've had problem in terms of my hips, lower back and things like that, and this is the time I'm able to focus and really work."
