The_Next_Big_Thing
I'm sorry but being a person who would die to play in the NFLHow would you play if you died? I think you'd be limited to spectral teams... OUCH! That was perhaps the most painful joke I've seen in a long time.... Yes, I'm laughing but it's one of those smiling groaning laughs. WhoDey93285
ESPN Reporter, John Clayton just said, on Sportscenter, that Michael Munoz will be coming out of retirement within the next 48 hours and there is a good chance he will sign with Cincinnati. So expect for the bengals to sign Munoz within the next 48 hours. He said he just retired because of frustration for not being drafted and realized he wanted to still play.Personally, I like it. I wanted us to draft him instead of the Kieft guy.

All speculation on John's part.
WhoDey93285
Is that what he said? Sorry, I was going on what my roommate told me. He was estatic about it (Big Munoz fan) so I believed him. My bad everyone. But I do think there is a good chance we'll sign him.

It was just confusing and if someone noticed it half way through John's analysis then it could very well be guessed as what you said. bengalsfan33
I'd love for him to come to Cincy, but I don't want the Munoz that will retire just because he didn't get drafted. I can see why he's mad, though.
jbengals1
John ClaytonApril 26, 2005Munoz might not be doneDon't count out University of Tennessee offensive lineman Mike Munoz coming back into football after making his surprising retirement announcement Sunday night after not being selected in the NFL draft. Much of his thinking was frustration. He was banking on being a third- or fourth-round choice but teams took him off the draft board because of shoulder and knee problems. His agent, Robb Nelson, fielded enough calls from teams interested in signing him to a free agent contract, but Munoz is thinking about what to do. The Bengals are interested, but Mike has to make sure if he does go there it is because the Bengals want him and they aren't doing it as a favor to his Hall of Fame father, Anthony. The hope is Munoz will change his mind before the weekend. ESPN

not-another
Little Munoz is stupid. NFL is good money. I mean, being in the NFL puts you in the P-I-M-P club. Except, maybe Kyle Larson (I think that is his name, I just refer to him as the "bald punter" around my crib) guy; bald guys cant be cool. In the wonderful NFL, you get women, and probably a few men tossed at you. You get into partys free, and everyone buys you drinks and what you want. Come on, who dont want that life? Oh well, what ever floats your boat; tickles your pickle; and makes you giggle.

Was he driving home after the game still wearing his uniform again? As far as Munoz possibly wearing the same stripes his father wore? I say hell yeah!! Bring that big ol lineman in here and give him a shot! Sure his ego got crushed not being drafted after it seemed a certainty. He'll get over it, probably become a pretty decent player at least to boot! :player:

The_Next_Big_Thing
Do we really want a guy who's first reaction to adversity was to quit? Or do we want a guy who's first reaction to adversity is to put a chip on his shoulder and make the guys who didn't draft him sorry?I doubt he will be signed here. PICKENS 81
He's absolutly nothing like his dad. His dad was fiery and had a passion for the sport. Mike just wantsto see if he'll get drafted then quit. Mike, don't come out of retirement. You've allready quit.
derekshank
I can pretty much guarantee it's not about the money. Like it was stated earlier in this post - where else are you going to make 6 figures for sitting on the bench. More likely is he realized his injuries are enough to make NFL teams not want to take a chance on him, so why should he go and kill himself and injure himself more, when he would be perfectly happy doing something else.We may be a little disappointed because he isn't going to be his dad, but it is his life, and if being in the NFL is not the biggest deal to him, why should it be to us? That doesn't make him less competitive than other guys, it just means that he isn't a one trick pony. Cut the kid some slack.

If he goes on with his life, I support him completely. If this was just him being mad because he wasn't drafted and quiting? That's another story. He could be a great backup tackle immediately for someone. He might even be able to recover fully from his injuries, study a bit, put on a little weight and become a premier offensive tackle in the league, just like his father. He has the genetics. But I don't think he has the mindset to do it.His father, and any good offensive lineman, would never say die. You aren't in a position to give up after a defensive end beats you once, twice, or even 3 times. You have to be able to get back up and fight fight fight. If, less than a week after deciding he would persue another career, he changes his mind and signs as a free agent, I have to question his heart. It no longer appears he is following his heart and leaving behind football, but that he got upset because he got beat, and didn't have the heart to get up and fight. I wish Michael Munoz luck in his career, whatever he choses, but I don't think we should sign him as a free agent even if he decides to play at this point. HairOnFire
Just because he lacks the passion that made his father an all-time great doesn't mean the Bengals would be ill-advised to sign him to an UFA contract. Truth be told I have always felt that he was vastly overrated but that's not really true anymore, is it?
