LesterLyles
I especially liked your 3rd round pick...the kid is going to be very productive (you watch). Pollack was such a productive guy and those are great players to have. Don't know much about the round 2 guy.So what can you Ohioans tell me about my new kicker? I must say, I did like the pick b/c I have heard great things about him but I guess I wanted some "inside" info.
skyline
Great kicker, but crazy place to be taking him...Thanks for the input on our 3rd pick...he seems to be drawing the most doubt from Bengals fans so far...

I think the Vikes were going to take him at 49 (that was the rumour anyway). I have always leaned towards your reasoning about selecting kickers/punters too high but football is such an even sport talnetwise that a few breaks here and there tend to be the difference. Many times, it comes down to the kick (I know too well about this). I'm just excited at the prospect of having a top notch kicker for the long-term....I really hope he pans out. NE is the best team but it is no coincidence that they won 3 SBs w/ arguably the best kicker of all -time. put a middle of the road guy there and they do not have 3 trophies. schweinhart
Nugent was definitely a 2nd rounder but it was surprising since the Jets re-signed Brien. Jets got a bigtime steal w/ Justin Miller. He'll push Barrett and is a vast upgrade over Strait in the nickel, plus he'll be the punt returner now that Moss is gone.Pouha seemed like a reach. I understand the need at DT but Pouha looks more like a NT and is like 26 years old already.
ShulaSteakhouse
When a playoff game comes down to a FG try, you guys will be glad you got Nugent. His kick-offs aren't bad either. You won't have to worry about the place kicking game for the next 5-10 years or so.Nugent makes 55 yarders as easily as 40 yarders, and is clutch. Odell Thurman was our 2nd round pick, he's a 230 pd. 6'1" MLB, Takeo Spikes type, not on his level as a prospect, but has upside to be that good possibly, at worst a step below that. Productive just like Pollack, they appear in the same higlights a lot I noticed.
andybren
I think Nugent's a great player, but the reaction from the Jets fans there at the draft was priceless. You would have thought they had drafted an equipment manager.

You would have thought they had drafted an equipment manager. They do that every year I think. They showed moments from past Jets draft days, if you saw that, and I wish I had it on tape, classic. The crowd chanting "We Want Sapp!" Only to hear Kyle Brady's name called. (Doh!)And then all the bad #1 picks down through the years back to 1979 for them, including passing up Marino. BersMrnsT
Drafting Nugent was a very smart move. Kind of like the other guy said, when he hits the game winning field goal in any game, regular season or playoffs, and when he consistenly knocks in 50 yard field goals, you'll be glad you got him. When the offense only has to get to the 35 on its drives to get a score, you know you've got something good going for you. Also, some little nuggets of information: Cleveland - Courtney Brown, Arizona - Thomas Jones, Baltimore - Travis Taylor, NY Giants - Ron Dayne, Carolina - Rashard Anderson, etc. These were all 1st rounders the year that Sebastian Janikowski was taken by the Raiders. Believe me, I'm definitely not advocating taking a Kicker in the 1st round, but Janikowski'll be kicking with the Raiders until he's 40, so it definitely wasn't a bad investment. All I'm saying is that it's not a terrible idea to use a 2nd or 3rd round pick to lock up a game breaking position for years to come. ArmyBengal
The look on the J-E-T-S fans was funny as hell, but Nugent is a STUD. This kid is automatic and can kick the s**t out of the ball 8-9 from beyond 50 yards ?? Are you kidding me ?? 2nd rounder all the way. Good pick...WHODEY !!! I remeber w/ the 4 first round picks in 2000, everyone wanted Bubba Fransks and we picked John Abraham and the crowd booed for about an hour. I bet you half of them never even heard of Abe. I think they booed b/c they wanted Miller. The fact we got Miller at 57 is making every Jet fan now saying we had a tremendous 2nd round. I agree that the 3rd round guy was a bit of a reach but I don't mind the pick. He's kind of a boom/bust type of pick. Throw in Doug Jolley and I am happy w/ what my team has done.
