ArmyBengal
Bengals | Watson Signed to One-year Deal - from www.KFFL.comTue, 12 Apr 2005 14:40:00 -0700The Cincinnati Bengals have announced the signing of RB Kenny Watson, a restricted free agent, to a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. Good thing in my book !!!WHODEY !!!
Kirkendall
Agreed.
TJJackson
I dunno, we keep signing valuable RFAs to one year agreements, we lose them the moment they hit UFA...we should be trying to lock the key contributors like Myles and Watson to longer term deals with signing bonuses rather than giving them the bare minimum
jditty47
nah. both are good at contributing roles...not staring roles. no need to sign contributors to longterm contracts.

But I think these guys, the RFA, we sign to one-year deals are guys that will just contribute, rather than rising higher. The thinking, I'm guessing, has a lot to do with finding diamonds in the rough and signing them to long term deals if their future looks starter-like. IMHO. TJJackson
I see it a little differently.Myles is a not just a starter, but a STAR on special teams coverage units. A difference maker.Take a look at Watson's per carry average, and you will wonder why he doesn't get more carries. He's also our kickoff returner...i think. These two are more than just your basic backup players, and in my mind at least should have been treated a bit better. I think they'll remember how they were treated when it comes time for UFA.....
Kirkendall
Yea, I'll agree with you with Myles. Not only does he play well on ST, but at the games, he's the one on the field interacting with the crowd. I like Watson, but I do think, on a lot of his runs, he's a product of super-long 3rd down draw plays as well as the ol' change of pace theory from Rudi to Kenny. If Perry is ever healthy, then Watson is absolutely indispensible. But what we're doing with our RFA is very common right now within the league -- unless they turn out to be super-stars, which none are. Conversely, last season, we had Rudi as a RFA and signed him to a max deal so I think it's a per player deal. IMHO.
schweinhart
Hey, some excellent news Watson is good to have if anything happens to Rudi and Perry keeps crapping out.
BengalPappaw
WOW!!!Does this mean we will NOT draft a back-up running in the first round??
Chucktkd
I'm still hoping Perry produces well.
jditty47
i look at it like this. no matter the ability or the flare that we have seen from both of them(btw i do like both of them), they are still low on the depth chart. there are at least 30 or so guys that deserve as much if not more than they do. signing them to a one year deal, above the minimum is great for them and us...especially since there are a ton of players we could get that have just as much motivation/determination...you are gonna tell me with having rudi and perry u really need watson? i would be more than happy with quincy wilson instead. i could go into myles but i like him, and it would sound like i dont...
