skyline
I liked him, but with all of his injuries I think this is a smart move...Saves us $700,000 in cap room.
HoosierCat
Too bad. He did good for the Bengals in 2003. I was hoping he could come back to form...oh well. Best of luck to him.
Bgal
How serious are these head injuries anyway? I wonder if any other team will pick him up or if he's finished.

Chucktkd
Good question, JJ. and I am hoping for Sharper. Marv is a tight lipped kind of guy.

With Ellis Johnson in town, that's the way I'd bet, if indeed something is brewing.Now...Johnson and Sharper...be still my beating heart... HairOnFire
You may be on to something, but we've been hearing alot of medical related news of late....including Marvin picking this week to mention the news about Weathersby. Perhaps he's simply taken the pulse of his team and determined that it's time to for some players to hear the hard truth.

I thought Marvin said no comment to the Weathersby situation. The Dayton paper reported that on their own, I believe.

I doubt the Dayton paper would make up a story like that out of the clear blue sky. Far more likely is Marvin felt that at some point during that evening he was speaking off the record when the original remarks were made and now refuses to comment further. Oh, I don't think that they made it up. I just thought they got the info from another source.Anyway, not important...not sure why I even brought that up, haha. jjakq27
http://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/cont...09bennotes.htmlBENGALS NOTESWeathersby urged to retireBy Chick LudwigDayton Daily NewsNearly a year after his near-fatal car crash, cornerback Dennis Weathersby's future with the Bengals remains shrouded in doubt.Head coach Marvin Lewis told the Agonis Club late Monday night that Bengals team doctors have recommended that Weathersby not play football again.Weathersby's representatives at Premier Management in Henderson, Nev., said they wanted to speak with Weathersby and his rehabilitation specialist before making any public comment.Weathersby spent the entire 2004 season on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list after sustaining a head injury on April 12 when the 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS he was driving crashed into a utility pole on a rain-slicked highway ramp in the Cincinnati suburb of Springdale. The car crash marked Weathersby's second tragedy within a year. On April 20, 2003 — Easter Sunday, just six days before the 2003 NFL Draft — Weathersby was shot in the back as he walked to his truck on a street in Duarte, Calif., northeast of Los Angeles. The Bengals decided to take a chance on Weathersby, making him their fourth-round draft pick (No. 98 overall). The 6-foot-1, 204-pounder, who won a Pac-10 award as the most outstanding male student-athlete at Oregon State for the 2002-03 school year, played in only four games as a rookie on special teams and didn't record a tackle.Even though the Bengals were not obligated to pay Weathersby in 2004 because his injury was not football related, the club honored Weathersby's contract and paid him his $305,000 salary. Whur CHad At?
Im sure Green Bay will pick him up. He could be back in San diego because they need a safety. I will miss Beckett, he was above solid in 2003, but with all the injuries, it was a smart move.

schweinhart
I'd say Beckett will be urged to retire. Too many concussions. He was missed last year vs. the run.

jjakq27
http://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/cont...11bennotes.htmlBengals cut safety BeckettBy Chick LudwigDayton Daily NewsCINCINNATI | The Bengals made a cost-saving move on Thursday by terminating the contract of strong safety Rogers Beckett, releasing him to free agency.Beckett, a six-year veteran from Marshall and second-round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers in 2000, suffered a series of concussions that limited him to seven games and five starts in 2004. He registered 19 tackles (11 solos) and one pass breakup. The Bengals acquired Beckett off waivers from the Chargers in June 2003 and signed him to a three-year contract last offseason. He was due to make $700,000 after earning $575,000 in 2004.Beckett's departure makes Kim Herring the No. 1 strong safety on the offseason depth chart.Georgia's Thomas Davis is considered the top strong safety in the April 23-24 NFL draft and may be available when the Bengals make the 17th pick.
