Jets This Year's 'Bungles'

Recommended Posts

NYJ may be getting the old 'Bungals' treatment in FA, per profootballtalk.com! ^_^

JETS GETTING PUNKED BY AGENTS?

There's a rumor making the rounds in league circles that various agents could be using the Jets as a tool for driving up their clients' offers elsewhere, with no serious intention of recommending that their guys go to New York.

Several pro personnel execs have told us that the Jets seem to be desperate to make a splash in free agency, and that the agents are seizing on this as a chance to drive the price up for taking another team's offer.

Examples of this include defensive tackle Pat Williams, who parlayed New York's interest into a gig with the Vikings.  Also, nose tackle Jason Ferguson flirted with the Jets (causing them to stutter-step on Williams) before heading to Dallas.

Running back LaMont Jordan used a $3 million per year offer from the Jets as a springboard for a $27 million package in Oakland, and defensive tackle Seth Payne abruptly inked with his Texans after returning from a trip to New York.

A similar phenomenon occurred a year ago, when cornerback Antoine Winfield looked to be ready to sign with the Jets before landing in Minnesota.

So stay tuned.  We don't know whether the rumors are valid, but we'll keep our ears open for more info along these lines.

That article was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. He's talking about existing Jets players. That stuff happens all the time. The Jets made offers to keep them and they thought they could get more...they were right. Ask the Steelers, ask the eagles. Ask any team in the league. The Bengals situation you guys refer to was different b/c it was players from other teams. Yeah the guy brings up Winfield, bt again, that is one guy in two years...and it happens all the time. That article was a joke.

ya i agree...its not the same as our problems with FA's.

Your problems were pre-Marvin. The aura of the team and his ability to attract guys is a lot different. Last off-seasonwas unfortunate but players around the league may have thougt the improvement was a fluke. This year I think proved lewis was legit and the future is bright.

As for the Jets, we did have that problem in mid 90s but the last 7 years or so we have had no problem getting free agents. I have heard players say they would love to play for Herm. The guy who runs that site, Mike Florio, is a Fins fan sohe has been pretty anti Jet. He said our coaching staff was racist a few months ago.
