COLLEGE: Hamilton started all 46 games in which he played in his four years at Minnesota and is regarded as the best center to ever play at the school. He was a consensus first-team All-America choice for the second consecutive year as a senior, earning acclaim from Football News, The Sporting News, American Football Coaches Association and Walter Camp. Hamilton was also a consensus All-Big Ten Conference first-team choice and a finalist for the Lombardi Award, given annually to the nation’s best interior lineman, as well as the Outland Trophy, awarded to college football’s top lineman. As a junior, he was named first-team All-America by the Associated Press, becoming the first Minnesota offensive lineman since Bobby Bell in 1962 to earn first-team national honors, while also picking up first-team All-America honors from The Sporting News and CBS Sportsline and second-team accolades from Football News. Hamilton was a first-team All-Big Ten Conference choice by the league’s coaches named the team’s Paul Giel award winner, which honors the player who exhibits total unselfishness and most concern about the University of Minnesota. He was honorable mention All-Big Ten as a freshman and sophomore, and redshirted in 1996. Hamilton graduated with a degree in engineering.

2004: Hamilton started all 16 games  at left guard and did not missed an offensive snap on a line that set a franchise record by allowing only 15 sacks, shattering the previous best of 22 sacks set in 1971, to rank third in the NFL. He started vs. Ind. (1/2), helping the Broncos average 5.1 yards per rush in a playoff-clinching victory. Hamilton and the Broncos’ offensive line did not allow a sack for the eighth time this season at Tenn. (12/25) and Denver ran for two rushing scores against the Titans. He started at K.C. (12/19), helping the Broncos average 6.1 yards per rush against the Chiefs. Hamilton helped rookie Tatum Bell post the first 100-yard game of his career vs. Mia. (12/12), marking only the second time in franchise history that three different Broncos have had at least one 100-yard game in a season. He started at S.D. (12/5), clearing the way for two different Broncos to score rushing touchdowns for the first time this season. Despite slick conditions vs. Oak. (11/28) that were caused by a heavy snowfall, Hamilton and the Broncos’ offensive line did not yield a sack to the Raiders’ 3-4 defense. His blocking contributed to the Broncos holding an opponent without a sack for the fifth time at N.O. (11/21) while the offensive line also cleared the way for Reuben Droughns to rush for 166 yards. He protected Jake Plummer vs. Hou. (11/7) as the offensive line surrendered only one sack (-9 yds.) to the Texans. Hamilton was a part of franchise history vs. Atl. (10/31) in protecting Jake Plummer as he recorded the most passing yards in a single game in team history (ninth in NFL history) with 499 yards, and the lineman’s efforts resulted in a sackless game for the fourth time this season. On Monday Night Football at Cin. (10/25), he was a part of a blocking effort that paved the way for Reuben Droughns to rush for more than 110 yards for the third consecutive game. Hamilton’s blocking played a role in the Broncos not allowing a sack for the third game this season at Oak. (10/17) in addition to clearing paths for Denver’s dominating run game, which accounted for 254 yards on 51 carries. In Denver’s comeback win vs. Car. (10/10), Hamilton helped solidify the interior of Denver’s offensive line for Reuben Droughns in the running back’s 193-yard rushing effort that marked the ninth-highest single-game rushing total by a Bronco in franchise history during the regular season. For the second time this season at T.B. (10/3), Hamilton and Denver’s offensive line did not surrender a sack to its opponent. He was part of a blocking effort vs. S.D. (9/26) that held the Chargers to only one sack for -3 yds. At Jac. (9/19), Hamilton and Denver’s offensive line held the Jaguars without a sack. He was a part of a blocking effort vs. K.C. (9/12) that paved the way for Quentin Griffin to set a franchise record for most rushing yards in a season opener with a game-high 156 yards along with two rushing touchdowns.

2003: Hamilton started at left guard in all 16 games, helping the Broncos rush for a franchise-record 2,629 yds. while tying for the fourth-fewest sacks allowed in team history. In Wk. 4 vs. Det. (9/28), he moved to center in the fourth quarter to replace an injured Tom Nalen (right ankle).  Hamilton started at left tackle in the Broncos' AFC Wild Card game at Ind. (1/4).

2002: Hamilton started all 16 games, including the final nine at center after taking over the position—replacing the injured Tom Nalen (left ACL)—in Wk. 8 at N.E. He started the first seven games at left guard. At K.C. (10/20), Hamilton moved to center in the 4th qtr. after Nalen left the game.

2001: Hamilton was declared inactive for all 16 games.

He has played mostly at guard as a pro but was a center in college.

Should we maybe consider signing him to play at Center for us ?

I think he looks like an option, to say the least. 27 years old, experienced, a starter on a good O-Line in Denver.. has to be considered as a viable alternative to drafting a center. Having said that, Tom Nalen, the Denver starting center, is 33 years old so you have to figure the Broncos might wanna keep Hamilton..

He's an option, as well is Grey Ruegamer , recently released from the Packers. Ruegamer has mostly been a backup to Flanagan in Green Bay, but he played very well this year while Flanagan was hurt. Favre was only sacked 14 times this year, which was part of a record setting year for the Packers offense. - nfl.com

Hobson was on the "Two Angry Guys" this morning and also mentioned that the Bengals still remain positive about back-up center Larry Moore. When asked why they played Jerry Fontenot at the end of the season, instead of Moore, Hobson said they were comfortable with JF since he had played at the beginning of the season and Moore had missed time due to injury and didn't have the reps......

Same story says LB Ian Gold has returned to Denver too, which is a shame because I would like to have seen him here. Also means the Bucs have freed up enough cash (they released Jurevicius and Brad Johnson too) to keep hold of Dwight Smith, who I thought might be an answer for our problems at safety.

The Broncos are using up their cash fast.. we HAVE to go after Reggie Hayward.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 3, 2005) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free agent defensive end Reggie Hayward to a five-year contract, filling one of their primary needs and bolstering a line anchored by Pro Bowl tackles Marcus Stroud and John Henderson.

Hayward, who spent the past four seasons with the Denver Broncos, had a career-high 10½ sacks last year. The Jaguars expect him to be even better alongside Stroud and Henderson. The contract pays $25 million with $10 million guaranteed.

Back to the drawing board..

I really dont see any free agent being pursued with any urgency right now.

I think they might have interest in Ed Hartwell what with the uncertainties of Miller and Webster's injuries...Depth at the MLB would be nice...

Outside of that I think they will go after a center in the draft along with trying to upgrade the SS and DT positions.... A TE would be nice too.. BPO attitude...
