blaynero
I was kind of curious what everyone's thoughts were about who the Bengals would draft first. I was briefly looking at some mock drafts and their were a few people that stuck out to me. DT Travis Johnson, Shawn Cody, Anttaj Hawthorne, or Justin Tuck. At DE Erasmus James, Dan Cody, David Pollack, or Marcus Spears. I would have to say at DT it would have to be Travis Johnson. He's a huge hole stopper and can get to the QB. It would free up our DE's.For DE it would have to be Erasmus James. It would be nice to have someone else to help J Smith out on the other end. We are more pressed for a DT because Tony Williams will not be coming back so I would have to go with Travis. Let me know what your opinion is please. bengalboomer7
I'd like to see Johnson, james or Pollack. This may contradict a way earlier post but Marvin is hinting to trading (I hope up) but maybe we'll have another 10 picks this year.
HoosierCat
We have some pretty extensive (and good!) conversations on the pros/cons of these and other guys down on the draft board (to which this thread is headed).Personally, I favor DT over DE and a run-stuffer like Hawthorne over a rusher like Travis Johnson, but Marvin doesn't listen to me, and that's probably a good thing. jjakq27
Personally, I don't think they will take a DT in the first round. I know we keep saying how Marvin is in charge and everything but the Bengals draft day history is to draft skill-type players at No. 1. I just don't see them taking a DT there. If they are going to drop that kind of money then they will probably select an OL, LB or a WR.
CJBestInAFC
Yeah I think I would pass on DT in the first round. There are so many better players to draft then a DT. I honestly wouldn't be surprised with the Bengals drafting S, Lb, or WR. WR because they might need another WR if TJ doesn't resign, and Warrick might want a lot of money the following year. Imagine if they got Roddy White, Troy Williamson, or Clayton. I like Shawne Merriman because he can play both DE and LB, and then we can cut Kevin Hardy. Thomas Davis is another good player that could be converted to Lb. I like maybe the idea of drafting TE. I say that DT could be addressed later in the draft. Also , Marvin Lewis made it clear when the season was over that finding another defensive end either in Free Agency or the draft was one of his top offseason priorities. BengalPappaw
Of the DE, I like David Pollack best. If we take a DT (which I doubt based on what I've seen), I think that Travis Johnson is a lock. We ca always use another Johnson [lets not go down that path again. lol] I think there's a good chance one of the big / speed receivers slide to the Bengals. If Mel Kiper is right then, Derrick Johnson could slip so and be available for the Bengals -- and I'd love to have an impact player like that. Move Simmons to strong side LB. Look at the LBs we would have. Maybe we do more 3-4 defense.

BengalPappaw
Or have the "Elasto-mom" just handed it to Paul T. I've afraid Mikee might trip the kid on the way to the podium.

delhole
I watched an interview of Marvin Lewis the other night (forget what channel it was on) and when asked about the draft the first thing he mentioned the Bengals need is another WR. He didn't really talk about the need of a D-linemen because of something along the lines of that he has confidence in the young guys they have already. But he also said that they will get the best guy available regardless of position. So if somehow Mike Williams or Braylon Edwards slip through and are still available you may just see one of them as the Bengals first-round pick. Does anyone know Ozzie Newsome's history of trading in the draft? Lewis is said to have modeled his drafting strategy after Newsome. Additionally, the idea of taking the best player available, no matter the position, seems to contradict the "messiah draft pick" philosophy of trading up. It'll probably take more than Just Peter Warrick to move up 8 spots ! But then again we let Denver move up 7 last year.Sounds like a great Deal, but then again, I seriously doubt Washington would pass on Edwards,Williams, or Williamson ( if he goes that high ). There's the age to consider ( 27 ) , and the money 2.8 million. They would come out better drafting a Wr. * Luckily though P.T. Barnum was right !! There is a sucker born every minute
schweinhart
Just watched Skins GM Viiny Cerrato say the team has prioritized adding a downfield threat at WR and seemed determined to pick at #9. Plus, the Skins are supposed to be shopping Rod Gardener. Skins definitely won't pass on Edwards or Williams if either is still there at #9 and I'd say they'd make more of a bid at Housh or Plaxico than trade for P-Dub at this point. bengalsfan33
I'd love to see Erasmus drop to us, but the only way I see us getting him is if we move up. I like the trade of Warrick to the 'Skins. I highly doubt it will happen though...
kurgan74
I would love to see Erasmus James as well, but I highly doubt that will happen. At 17 i also doubt that Derrick Johnson will be the available. From the mock drafts I have seen it looks like Shaun Cody from USC could be available. Also Marcus Spears looks like he could be there at 17. Either of them would be great additions to the front 7. Both are great against the run and both provided great pass rush ability up the middle. I would be thrilled with either of these 2 guys. :player: :player: :player: :player: :player: :player: :player:
BengalNation1281
Thomas Davis, Shaun Cody, Anttaj Hawthorne, Travis Johnson, Erasmus James, Derrick Johnson.Any of these would make me a happy man.JUST NOT A RB.BN1281
