schweinhart
If you got the time and the beer (and ESPN), check out the East West Shrine Game Saturday at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN before the playoffs. Lots of late Day 1 and Day 2 draft prospects fighting it out on the field for the scouts to watch (And maybe Paul Brown, Jr. and Rudi's agent duking it out in the stands )http://www.shrinegame.com/rosters.phpAlso North South Gridiron Classic is on ESPN 2 at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday. Late Day 2 picks and potential undrafted rookie free agents except for some headliners scheduled like Lionel Gates, Mo Mitchell, and Atari Bigby. bengalboomer7
Christmas sucked this year because of the loss of the Blue/Gray game. I always watched that stinking game!
schweinhart
The name that jumps out the most on the combine list (danka for that Old School) is Chris Canty, who has been injury-plagued w/ a variety of broken bones including a season ending one early this year. I don't know far in his recovery he is, but if Canty can actually particpate in the combine and look like he can still maintain athletcially, he could take huge leaps back up the board. schweinhart
If Perry has got the drive that Canty has, Perry should be able to come back just fine from a busted gut.Canty came back from a broken leg, a broken arm, and a dislocated elbow in 2002 to kick a$$ at DE in 2003.Then he damaged his knee early this year and vanished. If Canty can impress at the combine it could alter the Day 1 draft order somewhat because he would definitely be considered for DE in a 3-4 and should get a look as a DE/DT for 4-3 Ds. I hate to break it too you worse than Canty's " glass-man " like frame, but He hasn't lived up to his billing yet at Virginia . As a matter of fact, i have the displeasure of working with an Alum from Va. and he can't stand Canty ! I myself have limited opportunities to watch him play. He's another physical specimen type 6'7 280 with decent speed, but he can't stay healthy ! It can't be the work out regimen, because Va. has one of the better facilities for college athletes. He's a bum. But i hope for him the best.
schweinhart
As a matter of fact, i have the displeasure of working with an Alum from Va. and he can't stand Canty ! Be glad it ain't a Tech alum. Canty is a question mark but it'll be interesting if he shows at the combine. He had a solid year in 2003 after breaking his leg in the Spring of 2002 then getting his arm broke and elbow dislocated vs. Tech at end of 2002.The knee injury he had this year was not an ACL but not sure what it was.But back to the topic for a moment -- the Shrine Game -- there were some players who helped themselves.Lefors was his usual unconscious self and was insultingly compared by Bob Davies to Jeff Garcia when it is starting to look like Steve Young would be a better comparison.Orton made a couple of nice throws, including a perfect over-the shoulder bomb.Others who impressed me were:Calvin Armstrong -- Good pass protecting LT vs. DEs w/ size and LBs w/ speed.Leroy Hill -- WLB written all over him, great speed and ability to shed block and pass cover.Liam Ezekiel -- WVU transfer at NEastern who is stiff LB vs. run.Kyle Eckel -- Made an amazing catch on a deep sideline route.Ryan Grant -- confirmed again he is a Kennjy Watson type.Dominique Foxworth -- decently skilled 1-on-1 cover CB.Adam Bergen -- Great hands and route runner for big TE.David Bergeron -- Stanford MLB who stones when he tackles.Fred Amey -- small school WR w/ long arms, big hands, and ability to catch.Real impressive were:J.R. Russell once again.Andre Maddox once again.Taylor Stubblefield -- just runs great routes and catches the damn ball even if he ain't the fastest.Brandon Jacobs
BengalszoneBilly
schweinhart,No comment on any defensive linemen at all? It's hard to believe no player at all stood out here.
schweinhart
Mr. Broome,I wish I had good news to report about the Dlinemen in the Shrine Game.Regrettably of the 2 1/2 qrters I watched, only Jay Ratliff of Auburn showed some spark. Ryan Riddle pass rushed well a couple times but it is hard for me to forget his total non-perfromance in the Cal-Tex Tech bowl game, so...naw.In fairness, the O-lines for both teams were stacked w/ real solid players like Claude Terrell, Scott Mruczowski, Chirs Kemoeatu, etc. And this was compounded w/ regard to the West squad because when Lefors was in, he was so dominant and elusive that the West Dlinemen just faded out of the picture.
