bengalboomer7
I'm a little dissapointed with that list billy, theres not one old Mike Brown pick on it
schweinhart
its not dead solid but u have to give the man a chance. and its worth risking having a guy that played very solid for you last year in watson (rushing, catching, and blocking) and a first round pick that the coach says has a ton of potential and cant wait to get on the field. Ill take those chances with signing a 3rd rb that can jsut flat run the rock like a big downhiller but not for more than the minimum. If Perry is healthy, he'll play regardless of whether or not Rudi is re-signed, but Perry will still have to beat out Watson IF Watson remains a Bengal. As an RFA, the Bengals will have to tender Watson, which would likely be the minimum tender ($619k last year). Teams don't often bid on other teams RFA but it does happen like it did with the Jags and Graham last year.Watson is an all-downs back, skilled in all aspects of the run and pass game, which added to the list of reasons why Perry saw hardly any action when he was healthy.I wouldn't be surprised to see another team force the Bengals hand w/ Watson. However, the number of good RBs in the draft this year may lessen the chance of Watson packing his bags.Regardless of whose healthy or who is re-signed, the Bengals should still draft a RB this year because about 10 of them are bonafide picks. The later in the draft, the closer to the minimum salary wise. Brandon Jacobs of Sothern Illinois is one to watch. He helped himself immensely in the Shrine game yesterday and at 6-4, 260 is proly the most powerful downhill runner in the class.
Rick
I just want one GOOD DT from Free Agency and one GOOD DT from the draft. Am I asking for too much?
schweinhart
Rick, that seemingly simple request is major deja vu from this time last year. And it was not done then when it was awfully damn clear that something needed to be done, although some unsuccessful effort was made free agent wise.I like Ratbird Marques Douglas as a UFA signing. He should cost signifcantly less than Corey Simon or Pat Williams or Jason Ferguson but he is smaller than those 3.Draftwise, I'm just not liking any of the DTs too much this year but Travis Johnson of Fla State, Shaun Cody of USC (as a DE/DT), Anthony Bryant of Bama (large dude), and Jonathan Babineaux of Iowa (as DE/DT) might do something in NFL.The ML approach to the DT dilemma to me looks like it might have been done in the 2nd half of season when Terrance Martin was signed and Shaun Smith claimed off waivers. There's the rook Matthias Askew, too, but based on his pre-season play, I wouldn't be counting on him unless Marvin Lomardi can work his magic and coach him up quick. walshfan
THE ONLY FREE AGENT THE BENGALS WILL GO AFTER WITH ANY URGENCY TO IT IS CORY SIMON...HE'S THE TYPE OF PLAYMAKING TACKLE MARVIN WANTS..THE DRAFT WILL SEE THE BENGALS TRY CLAIM ANTAAJ HAWTHORNE DT WISCONSIN OR THOMAS DAVIS S GEORGIA WITH THE FIRST PICK IF THEIR ON THE BOARD AND ASSUMING THE BENGALS DONT LAND SIMON VIA FREE AGENCY. SECOND PICK COULD BE DAVID BAAS C-G MICHIGAN AND THIRD WOULD BE THE BEST PLAYMAKER ON DEFENSE... THATS THE STRATEGY ...THATS THE GAMEPLAN IMHO
pimpdaddy
I would like to see the Bengals go after Donavan Darius. He is older but he can still play.I just can't watch another game with KK getting rolled over at the goal line. :player:

schweinhart
You said it. The Bengals RB situation is IFFY.Chris "Iffy" Perry is the iffiest of all for all of the previously enumerated list of reasons.Watson as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2001 would bring no comp if another club opted to offer higher than the Bengals tender IF ML & Co. offer him the lowest tender and decided not to counteroffer to keep Watson.Since Rudi does not seem to object to the franchise tag, it's shaping up like they'll franchise him ASAP then shop him or keep him if not enough is offered in exchange. Bengals need to settle that one quick either way so other moves can be made. What's seeming less of an if is the Bengals drafting an RB on Day 2 given the deep class this year regardless of all the ifs. If Rudi's gone come draft time, the Bengals 1st pick could very well be an RB again.
