turningpoint
Often we see the same players tagged eachother for their respective team, because a $8million contract is considered insulting. Anyways i see a lot of free agent opening this year because of the franchise tag.SEA- has many problems they can only franchise 1 player, and the obvious choice is left tackle walter Jones. This leaves Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander free to test the market.SF- Julian Peterson was placed on IR for 14games, and is looking to recover from his injury this might not warrant him to get franchise tagged, due to his injury that people suspected as not having to be at training camp. Many belive he's not worth top 5 LB money.Oak- Charles Woodson i doubt this guy is tagged this year, but you never know with the raider Ogranization. The guy was a liability this season on and off the field. He fell way off the charts this year and isn't even considered a top 10 corner in the NFL anymore.STL- I feel orlando Pace will be franchised again and he hates it.Jax- Donovan Darius is on the decline but still has 3 solid years left in him, but look for him to get a chance to test FA.NO- look for Darren Howard to be franchised again, had a solid 11 sack year.Phi- Simon should be franchised.IND- don't look for Edge to be franchised, i expect him to be one of the 1st big name free agent signies to sign in with Miami after the 1st day of FA, colts don;t need him they got quality back ups in Mungro and Rhodes, and when u have the best 3 wr combo/QB in the NFL why do you really need a 1600yd rb. 1200yd rb should be good enough.NYJ- have many FA's and will franchise one of them. they have an outstadning LT. DT and DE looking for big money contracts. I suspect John Abraham will be Tagged.GB- Chad Clifton should be tagged again, after another solid year.I probably missed a couple teams, but these are the guys i think that will affect us the most in FA. Tiger Stripes
im starting to lean toward letting rudi go because honestly if we dont then really we wont be able to sign any of the big names in FA especially with t.j. looking to get a deal and i think he's more important than rudi but then again you have to ask yourself if we really need any big name free agents... after another solid marvin draft, im not sure if we will. BengalNation1281
Anybody think Hasselbeck could end up in GB again?Edge will be a Dolphin. No surprises there. As far as Rudi goes, I think that he should stay, but having Kenny Watson and Quincy Wilson would lessen the blow if he leaves. We need a DT (Hovan or Simon) and a SS (Sammy Knight, Kenoy Kennedy, Ifeany Ohalete if we don't want to spend too much but get a solid player) more than we need to keep Rudi.BN1281

Kirkendall
Edge will be a Dolphin. No surprises there. Colts owner said he would either sign Edge to a long-term contract or franchise him. Edge will be a Colt in '05 -- unless something happens or I just misread something (both of which is a big possibility).
BengalNation1281
I honestly hadn't heard anything from Irsay regarding Edge. Everything that I have been hearing has Edge going to the Dolphins, but I am known to be wrong from time to time."60% of the time, I'm right all the time"BN1281
bengalboomer7
They had some really good input on Indy during the game yesterday. Basically, they said to Tony Dungy when they hired him that they(GM, I think it's Bill Polian) would put most of their money into the offense and he had to patch up the D the best he could. I thought that was an interesting statement especially since Dungy is labeld as a "defensive coach"The St. Louis Rams proved you Don't have to have a good defense and Baltimore showed us you don't have to have a good offense to win it all. Basically, you have to play to your strentghs and hide your weaknesses the best you can!

I love topics like these. My thoughts: I think Seattle may franchise Alexander because of his popularity in the area as well as the integration of the system. However, I think who Seattle Franchise's all depends on who's coaching in '05. One of SF's major problems is a lack of talent -- of which I can't imagine giving up Peterson and getting nothing in return. I don't think anyone should sign Woodson. Whoever did, has to deal with those brothers that made the Winslow-Browns contract so difficult. Stay away. Like said above, I read Edge will be franchised. If anything else, a realization if they let him go, they get ZERO in return. Plus I don't think he gets enough credit for the great Indy offense. How many play-actions do they run? They run it because most teams feel Edge is a legitimate threat.

I just remember that report being read back when it came out and haven't heard anything since. It definitely hasn't been national headlines or anything... I just can't imagine the Colts giving up James for nothing. That's where I find the whole thing a little off-beat. I fully expect the Colts to either franchise and then trade to Miami -- they'll probably take anything -- or sign him to a long term deal. turningpoint
they really aren't giving up nothing, they're giving themselves the oppurtunity to sign some defense....They gotta look down the road...there TE's are becoming studs and are gonna demand some bigtime moneyin less then 2 years, same with there O line it's been SOLID. At some point you gotta make a cutoff line.Anyways Kennoy Kennedy or Sammy Knight would be great.

turningpoint
Read my above post turning point, it doesn't look like their interested in putting too much money in the D yeah i know, but there's a point where you have to have players on D. It's not like you can just make Clark play LB.They aren't gonna have any money left, not to mention you know it's a must to keep Dwight Freeney. bengalboomer7
No thats not it, but thanks for helping with my brain fart.Turning point- Like I said in an earlier post somewhere. Not having any O worked for baltimore one year and not having any D worked for St louis one year. I think after the last couple years of playoff losses they just looked at their personnel and said "lets just try to outscore everyone and see what happens." TubThumper
Read my above post turning point, it doesn't look like their interested in putting too much money in the Dyeah i know, but there's a point where you have to have players on D. It's not like you can just make Clark play LB.They aren't gonna have any money left, not to mention you know it's a must to keep Dwight Freeney. You can continue to neglect the defense if your real intent is to merely ensure that your product is exciting enough to keep people coming and watching. You can keep shuttling in marquee players, put up a lot of points, flirt with the playoffs - maybe go a long way, maybe not. But, it ultimately doesn't matter how far you go in the playoffs as long as the product is just exciting enough to sell. That can go on for a long time before the fans get hip to it. The problem with rooting for pro sports teams is that you don't always know what game ownership is really playing.
