NFL Europe

Just curious what everyone thinks about it this year. Maybe it's just me, but I seem to be more excited about everything going into next year, including NFLE. Watson went last year and most, including myself, didn't give him much credit for what he did there, but it panned out well with our 1st rounder out. Looking forward as always...

That was Skip Hicks that went to NFL Europe last year.

And he DIDN`T pan out.

Here are the players on the Bengals roster that have played

in NFL Europe.

Cincinnati Bengals Jon Kitna QB Barcelona 1997 Seattle Roster

Anthony Mitchell S Rhein 2000 Baltimore Roster

Carl Powell DE Rhein 1999-2000 Roster

Kyle Richardson P Rhein 1997 IR

http://www.nfleurope.com/news/story/8026762

And the Bengals have said that they are going to send at least

4 players there this year.

OVERSEAS: The Bengals will assign at least four players to NFL Europe this spring.

They are quarterback Casey Bramlet, tight end Jeremiah Cockheran and defensive linemen Derrick Crawford and Greg Scott.

The allocation of four players to Europe means the Bengals can bring 84 players to training camp this summer. The limit is 80, plus one for each player sent to Europe.

Bramlett was the team's emergency third quarterback but was promoted to No. 2 for the last three games, after Carson Palmer's injury forced backup Jon Kitna to start.

My bad, don't know why I was thinking Watson.

Now, I'm not at all familiar with the hows and whys of allocating people to NFLE, although I'm much more interested this year, but couldn't we send Askew or Andrews to help them get some experience or would this not be possible ?? Just curious...

Hobson had an article not too long ago about Andrews saying he wants to play NFLE. Given he played less than 100 snaps in college, he'd seem to benefit the most from the experience, plus it would help him decide if football is what he really wants to do. The guy is an athletic beast and has the godgiven ability to make it big time if he wants.

I saw where Hobson had J-Cock as a TE. He's a WR from Hawaii who the Bengals cut early as an undrafted rookie free agent after he failed his physical. His shoulder was effed up bad but when he cleared medically, he was picked back up for the PS. Last year, the guy was clocked just under 4.2 in 40 and caught a lot of balls in June Jones' pass happy O.

I was gonna say Bramlet, but that's already been covered. I'd like to see him do well over there.

Stacy Andrews was inactive for the first 13 games but got his first taste of playing in the NFL against Buffalo on Dec. 19 when he played briefly as an extra tight end. The Bengals like his potential even though he is a raw talent. Sending him to play in NFL Europe in the spring could be a possibility.

"I'm pretty sure that is a possibility," said Stacy, although the team has not talked to him about it yet. "I'd do it. Considering I only played five games in college, I'm a quick learner but it would help to get more real time snaps."

It was Goheen not Hobson who asked Andrews about NFLE.

Does any NFL team keep just 2 Qbacks on their roster, just wondering how often in the past that the 3rd Qback actually has to play when the 1st and 2nd go down with an injury??

At the beginning of the season the Steelers went with just Maddox and Roethlisberger as first and and second QB's respectively. We usually have three with Charlie Batch and Brian St Pierre with us last season. We lost Batch at the beginning of the season to IR and St Pierre was only signed to the practice squad. The reason for only two QB's was that we were wanting depth in the RB position (which has worked well) and knew that if we were incredibly desperate we could use Antwaan Randle El who played QB at college.

Although this situation was short lived. Maddox went down in the second game to Baltimore, Roethlisberger began his legacy and we resigned St Pierre from the practice squad.

It is considered a gamble, but yes a few NFL Teams do only carry 2 QBs on their Roster.

Oh yeah and on the original topic - No, I'm not too excited about the new NFLE season coming up. Being from England with Scottish blood I'm usually always up for the Europe league but now that both the Monarchs and Claymores have disbanded I'm not that excited about it now. It hurts thinking about it considering the Scottish Claymores fan base was growing and people were starting to take note. We even had some good grass roots stuff going on.

Anyway it should not be known as the NFL Europe league anymore. 5 out of the 6 teams reside in Germany. NFLG would be more appropriate. Yes I'm bitter.

Thanks guys, very refreshing to get informative replys. I think that 2 Qbacks for the Bengals is a very interesting possibility. And I know that a lot of people don't think much of Jon Kitna, however Palmer himself has said that Kitna has helped him tremedosly as have the coach's. The bengals always seem to be struggling with the salary cap issue. I guess thats a product of having way to many high draft picks for so many years. I suggest 2 Qbacks only and use some of the cash to resign as needed and for FA aquistions. The team seems to have a pretty good core of skill players lets keep them and shore up the Defense and add depth to the Oline.

My truck broke down in BIRMINGHAM one year and they sent me to a big motel downtown and when the shuttle bus from the hotel came to pick me up there were some really hugh fellows already in the bus. We got to talking and they were in B-HAM getting rehab from NFL EUROPE. They were players from ARIZ. and one was from WASHINGTON. It was pretty cool, I wish I could remember there names.

I say we send Kitna. He could use a refresher course.

No just joking. I'm sure he had it written into his contract that he doesn't have to go. No really....Andrews needs to go and learn how to play DT. If he's as athletic as they say he is then he could be a hugh boost as a DT. It's not like he has spent alot of time learning how to be an OT.

I'm not concerned about the season either. I don't care about the teams, who wins the games, or the stupid World Bowl or whatever it's called. I am however, looking forward to see who the Bengals send and how they progress. While the stats might be a bit off compared to playing against NFL starters, some will benefit greatly just from getting snaps. Andrews comes to mind the most.
