Palmer game time decision

Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, his left knee still in a cast, didn't practice Wednesday, and his status won't be revealed until 90 minutes before the Bengals play the Bills at Paul Brown Stadium this Sunday.

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Wednesday that Palmer's sprained knee has improved and that he won't rule out Palmer playing even if he doesn't practice this week in keeping him in the questionable category. It does look like the Bengals are going to be without their starting center against the Bills' massive defensive front that keys their third-rated NFL defense. Rich Braham (knee) has been downgraded to doubtful and didn't pracice Wednesday

If he doesn't play, and that's a big if, in my opinion, what I want to see is if Palmer is as excited and supportive of Kitna from the sidelines as Kitna has been for him....

I hope so. But it seems at times, other than the Baltimore super-man act, he's playing the role of ROBOT. We rarely see emotion from him...

I think he's only played for Chicago and New Orleans, and been around since '89.

As for the rest of you not wanting Kitna in for the injured Palmer -- are you insane? Why would we put in Palmer, STILL on cruches against a top five defense? If he plays, gets hit by Takeo -- probably just our luck -- then he could be out for a longer period of time through next season. I want Palmer in also, but is the risk worth the pleasure for one game? I don't think so.

Kitna will do well. He's still fighting for a starting job in the NFL, he'll take it if offered, and since he's signed through 2005, we could get another team's high draft pick -- if they're desperate enough. Kitna is applying for a starters job, he'll play his best Sunday, if he starts.

PS - I'm about 90% sure he's signed through 2005. I could be wrong though...

Palmer's gonna play. Mark my words.

Bengals | Palmer Targeting Week 16 Return - from www.KFFL.com

Wed, 15 Dec 2004 14:53:50 -0800

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals QB Carson Palmer (knee) said Wednesday, Dec. 15, that his chances of playing in Week 15 are "bleak." Palmer said he would be ready to play Sunday, Dec. 26 against the New York Giants. He added that he would not be off crutches until Saturday, Dec. 18. He also said the sprained knee is a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury. Palmer said the MCL was not torn. "I'll be ready to play the next weekend," Palmer said. "That's what they're telling me. It's not strong enough to protect it. I'd be shocked (if he played against the Bills)." Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis listed Palmer as doubtful for Week 15.

Yeah Kitna is signed through 2005.

Kitna

2005 salary $1,000,000

Cap hit $2,150,000

I hope Palmer plays. But only if he is 100%.

No sense in risking more injuries or to make it worse

just to knock the Bills out of the playoffs.

Hell Kitna could do it and we could laugh at all of

these Bills fans by saying we beat them with our 2nd

stringer in !

This is the best news out of the whole Palmer injury situation for me B)

I had Kitna taking home a $3 mill base in 2005 then saw the $1 mill you got there and looked again, only to realize that his base will in fact be $1 mill. He would've gotten $3 mill if he played 80% of snaps.

The $1 mill base obviously would make it much easier to keep Kitna on the roster next year.

The $2.15 mill cap hit I'm not sure about, though, if Kitna is to receive a $1 mill roster bonus in March and his $2.375 signing bonus was rated over 2 yrs. Those 2 factors would bump the cap hit up to $3.2 mill.

A game like this one vs. Bills underscores the importance of having Kitna on roster as #2 rather than, say, Shane Mathews or Chris Chandler. I for one look forward to watching Kitna play :player:

Me too. He came off the bench last week and had a solid, if losing, performance against one of the leatgue's best. Now he has a week to get fully back in the groove against a team he took to OT in their own park last year. He'll do fine.

Kitna is going nowhere. All these "trade him" rumours mean nothing other than fans thinking they are smart. Kitna doesn't want to be a starter somewhere else. I honestly believe he would rather become Icky Wood's assistant coach for the chicks football team in town rather than move out of Cincinnati. That being said, when you will play for $1 million a year as a veteran backup QB, and do the work of a QB coach at the same time, you are a steal!

He's also a competitor. If the option is there, he's going to want to check out the possibilities. While having Kitna here is awesome and couldn't think of a better scenario for Palmer, I hope that Kitna has the oppritunity to take over his own team. But I don't think he'll leave Cincy for another backup position, but if there's a starters position there, I couldn't imagine him wanting to backup Palmer if there's a chance to start for the rest of his career.
