jamesbrooks21
This guy is having a great year for San Diego. He has 42 tackles, 6 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, one pick, and 5 passes defensed. And he wasn't even good enough to keep.

Tons is probably stretching it. But both Foley and Thompson didn't fit the mold of how Marvin wants his defense to be. That doesn't make them bad players. But it makes them bad players in a system that they aren't ment to be in...The old square peg in a round hole thing. This is actually fairly common in the NFL. Someone has a breakout year and then changes systems and flops because he wasn't a good fit in the system. This has been on of Snyders biggest problems with the Redskins. He grabs guys that put up good numbers in one system, but then puts them in a system that isn't designed for them or their skill set. But yeah, it's a problem as long as some GM's (and coachs for that matter) are stat whores.

Someone has a breakout year and then changes systems and flops because he wasn't a good fit in the system. Or they have a cruddy year, but blossom when they move to a different team. Which, it should be noted, has happened here, too. If we're going to knock Marvin for letting guys like Foley and Thompson go, then he deserves equal amounts of praise for bringing in guys like O'Neal and Beckett, who were flops elsewhere but found their stride in Cincy. kevnz
Exactly Joisey. It's funny if you look at the situation at Deltha was in in Denver, they haven't improved one bit. Hell they just fired their DB coach cause they have a total of 3 picks. Hell Deltha already has 2 and would have had three if not for that holding call. So I'd say the Deltha O'Neal reclamation project has been pretty damn successful.

jjakq27
I may be wrong but wasn't Foley hurt in 2002? (dislocated shoulder) That's why Adrian Ross and Canute Curtis got significant playing time in 2002. Foley also missed the last four games in '01 with back trouble too. Foley was damaged goods heading into Marvin's first season. Based on that alone, I can't fault Marvin for that decision.
