Kirkendall Posted November 9, 2004 Report Share Posted November 9, 2004 Wide receiver LEE EVANS of the Buffalo Bills, wide receiver LARRY FITZGERALD of the Arizona Cardinals, quarterback CRAIG KRENZEL of the Chicago Bears, quarterback BEN ROETHLISBERGER of the Pittsburgh Steelers and safety MADIEU WILLIAMS of the Cincinnati Bengals are the finalists for PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK honors for games played on November 7-8, the NFL announced today.Fans can vote for one of these five players on NFL.com beginning Tuesday morning and ending on Thursday afternoon to determine the PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK. The PEPSI NFL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK will be announced Thursday afternoon on NFL.com.A closer look at the finalists:Buffalo’s Lee Evans caught five passes for 64 yards and one touchdown in the Bills’ 22-17 victory over the AFC East-rival New York Jets. His four-yard touchdown catch in the back corner of the end zone put the Bills ahead 17-10 in the third quarter. It was the second touchdown reception of Evans’ NFL career.Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald caught five passes for 94 yards and one touchdown in the Cardinals’ 24-23 victory over the Miami Dolphins. With less than a minute to play, Fitzgerald caught a two-yard, game-winning touchdown from quarterback Josh McCown. He leads the Cardinals with 31 catches for 463 yards and three touchdowns.Chicago’s Craig Krenzel passed for 144 yards and one touchdown on 8 of 21 passing in the Bears’ 28-21 win against the New York Giants. In his second-career start, Krenzel led Chicago to a win on the road, completing a 35-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Bernard Berrian in the second quarter.Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger completed 11 of 18 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns in the Steelers’ 27-3 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Roethlisberger connected with wide receiver Hines Ward and tight end Jay Riemersma on touchdown passes of 20 and two yards respectively. He is 6-0 as an NFL starter.Cincinnati’s Madieu Williams recorded a team-high nine tackles and intercepted a pass in the Bengals’ 26-3 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. I can't believe the Ed Reed runback is up for play of the week, unless this vote is for STUPID play of the week. Your team has the lead, there's :30 left and you pick off the ball in the end zone. What do you do. You SIT DOWN! Yeah, Reed gets a big boost to his personal stats, but what would have happened if he'd brougth it out, got hit at the five, lost the ball and Cleveland recovered to score? That's why you SIT DOWN.
