BengalBobNC
Ask Geoff Q/A on Bengals.comMy favorite part, and agree with wholeheartedly is the last part I bolded:The ridiculous penalties make it hard to defend any coach, and, yes, the Bengals have followed up last year’s 6-1 October-November run with eight losses in their last 11 games. But we will defend Lewis because it is simply sheer, flat-out ignorance to call for a guy’s head with a career record of 10-13. People don’t like it, but we’ll wheel this stat out, especially during Dallas week. After his first 23 games in 1983-84, Bill Parcells had a 7-15-1 record. Of course, it may be time for Lewis to quit patting guys on the head with the positive reinforcement stuff. Hey, it’s Parcells week. Go off on some guys. His teams don’t seem to play tight when he comes down hard.
skyline
Do we really know how much Lewis is "patting guys on the head"?
bengalboomer7
he needs to start putting some fear in these guys though. I think it's time to start calling out the vets. No intensity, poor tackling, out of position. I blame those on the cooaches and the veterans. If it stays this way I say you start benching guys like Hardy, backup Moore, clemons, herring, guys like that11
ShulaSteakhouse
So we're supposed to give Lewis 20 years of coaching before we judge the job he's done?I don't know if it's his fault - but he's responsible - and Bengal fans are sick of waiting. If Marvin can't get the job done here, then get someone else who freakin' will and not be satisfied with one big victory per season. That said Mike Brown continues to do things the same way and ultimately is at fault - but the lack of discipline and repetitive nature of the team's mistakes and shortcomings each week fall back on MArvin.Tired of making excuses for him and his Lebeauesque press conferences.Show some emotion you puppet. BengalBobNC
Do we really know how much Lewis is "patting guys on the head"?I can only speculate based on news conferences, etc. I don't get to see a lot of replays showing him on the sidelines during games interacting with whichever unit. My gut feeling is he could crank it up several notchs to get some people's attention.Hey, it couldn't hurt. If he is getting in people's faces perhaps he needs to yell louder. I don't know.A lot of the mistakes we are making are lack of concentration mistakes. (False starts, offsides when all you have to do is watch the ball.) In another article they defended not calling a timeout because they thought they had it defended well and were expecting a pass, like they had seen in film review.Really? They needed 1 maybe 1.5 yards, we have one guy against 4, and we have it defended well? Hindsight is perfect and maybe it did happen too quickly. Still, if I am Geathers, I'm the only one standing there, call a timeout. It is the first half. You will not be wasting a timeout. Okay, I'll stop harping on the fake punt play. I need to get over that mindboggling stupid play.
BengalBobNC
So we're supposed to give Lewis 20 years of coaching before we judge the job he's done? No, but how about a fair chance. I don't think the time he has currently had is a fair enough time to call for his head. Especially considering everything that we have talked about endlessly (injuries, rookie qb, etc, etc).I think everyone can yell we expect better though! Marvin's satisfied, eh? That's funny...
kevnz
Good grief man, you're calling for Marvin now? This man inherited the worst franchise in the NFL. His squad went 2-14 the year before he got here. e team was never able to develop any depth so we had to get over priced vets that put them in a salery cap bind. Marvin has had to purge the roster and has one of the youngest rosters in the nfl. Now that would be fine if we had a big group of pro bowlers around as well. We don't. This is a young team, this is a team that was designed to play good next year. There is gonna be some heart break this year as the team (Carson isn't the only young guy out there) matures. There will be highs, and there will be lows. This team does have some fight in them, look at the stats from esterdays game. It should have been a blow out but the team was able to fight back and were in it till the very end. People need to look at the master plan and not get a stupid knee jerk reaction when it's not all wine and roses
BengalBobNC
Ya' know. I think I am going to update my sig with all the points we/I have made (like kevnz's above) in an attempt to stop repeating the obvious over and over and over and over and over and over and over.We keep going back and forth over the same nonsense. Whether it's Palmer, or coaches, or whoever.Damn this board is frustrating sometimes.
bengalboomer7
i agree, you can't fire Marvin just yet. What this shows me is just how passionatte bengals fans are and 15 straight yars of losing can damage anyone's pshyse.
kingwilly
Didn't Dennis Green just demote his O-line coach? This is a desperate situation. The D-line is not doing well because of a talent deficiency. Not all the coaching in the world can make these guys heavier, faster or better. The O-line is a bit different. By all acounts, this is a very talented line filled with 1st and second rounders. At some point, something has got to give. Injuries slowed us out of the gate but this week was terrible. I wonder if Lewis will hold the coaching staff accountable for how well the line plays, a la Green. Palmer has been sacked amost 20 times and seems to be knocked down every few plays. This is one of the biggest lines in the league and the run game languishes. This team has a very fine receiver corp but Palmer has 10 picks to 5 TD's. Palmer is throwing from the 'gun to buy the extra second but still faces 3rd and 7's, 8's and 9's (of which he is converting a ton of BTW). There has to be accountability or Lewis will start to lose credibility within the team.Bottom line...fix the O-line. Lewis...take off the kid gloves. kybengalsfan
I am resigned to the idea that we may get some victories at home this year based upon emotion, but I dread to see them go on the road. What a disaster, week after week, looking like the old....I hate to say the word....Bungles. They seem to get fired up at home. Marvin said he was going to have them come out "with guns blazing." Well, if they came out blazing yesterday, they must have had a misfire. What happened to our highly touted offensive line? We already knew our D has "issues," but the O line has been more than a disappointment. Now Steinback is saying his elbow is to blame. Yeah, you would think that Arizona's Running Attack would be the best in the league!!!!With all that beef????? They fuggin' suck for as big as they are!!!!!! They're one of the biggest lines (if not the biggest in the NFL). WTF???????
