BengalBobNC
In his Wednesday news conference, Denver coach Mike Shanahan took exception to criticism of Foster's block by Steelers coach Bill Cowher."All teams do it," said Shanahan, who invited reporters to the Broncos' video room to show them film clips of other teams throwing chop-blocks. "In the game, Cincinnati had a number of them. I was a little offended with Bill Cowher's statement."I do not remember any Bengal player pulling off a chop block. Was I watching every single lineman, of course not, who can during a live game. My question: Is Shanahan correct? Do all teams, even Cincinnati do this? Regardless, if one team, 5 teams, or all teams do it, it needs to stop. Ending a player's season or maybe his career is unforgivable when it happens deliberately. If a player is shoved or falls into someone's leg, that is an unfortunate accident. Foster's digusting play was no accident. The league needs to do something about this. You have to be v-e-r-y careful around QBs, but lineman are wide open for serious injury???Full Enquirer Article

HoosierCat
Yes, other teams do cut block, but that isn't the point. What is -- as one of the pieces on bengals.com today makes clear -- is how and when the block was executed. If Foster had moved his head to one side, he could have taken Williams down without breaking his ankle. Not, of course, that he needed to take him down, since the ball was already gone. The play just smells. But if it was Denver's intention to scare or punish the Bengals, it certainly didn't work. And while they may get away with it now, they're going to be under a microscope for the rest of the season.
BengalBobNC
And while they may get away with it now, they're going to be under a microscope for the rest of the season.Even more so since this is the 2nd lineman this season alone that Denver has sent to the IR.I used to respect Shanahan. That was before I started to hear complaints about his player's dirty play (a few seasons back). There are ways to go low without causing injury. That is not how Denver teaches it apparently. I wonder what Shanahan would think if someone snapped his ankle?
