smith288
Hey everyone. Im new here. I was told about this site by a co-worker who digs the Dolphins. I used to frequent the footballhuddles site but some there are bung-holes and I never gained interest there. Let me offer up my analysis of the game: First, Cincy's D looked tough. Of course I say "looked". Dolphins offensive line looked like a strainer 90% of the time. I can't assume that every offensive line will play the matador to the Bengals d-line every week but it sure can boost a teams confidence. The Bengals offense looked pathetic pretty much all game with the exception of a few plays sprinkled in. I credit the Dolphins defense more than I discredit the Bengals. The Dolphins are stacked on defense. Zach Thomas was a blur to me all night. He is my kind of LB with his quiet demeanor and no-nonsense personality. Watching Carson Palmer really settled my nerves about him. I will accept dumb mistakes and whatnot because he is basically a 2nd year rookie. Instead of looking over matched all night in the face of a great defense, Palmer looked poised and attentive. He played his game and let the game come to him. A few plays made me cringe, such as the pass to Chad that was behind him on the quick slant (man did I moan on that missed opportunity) but all in all, Carson was efficient (throwing it away when nothing there) and productive. One thing I was annoyed by was that fake reverse they did all night. The only time they actually used it (i think) was when Jason Taylor was getting x-ray'd. I thought it was sorta over used and took Houshmanzadah (sp?) out of the play immediately from any potential downfield blocking. Its like we were accepting the fact we would only get a yard or two each run. All in all, I enjoyed this game. I definitely had a different feeling towards the end of "Oh no, here we go again...90's Bengals rearing its ugly head" but VOILA! Bengals pulled it out thanks to clutch passing and a revitalized offensive line.

The offense played soooooo conservative last night I wanted to pull my hair out, but hey, a win is a win.Welcome to the board.... :player:

HoosierCat
Welcome to the board, smith. Great first post. I think with the fake reverse got a little tired, but if you're going to hope to fool the D (by eventually running it for real) you have to run it a few times to set them up. I just didn't think it was going to fool them in the first place, they're too savvy. Indeed, one of the espn guys (Theismann, I think) mentioned that on all the plays the Fins had someone shadowing the faker just in case this was the play they ran it for real. Regarding the conservative offense, I noticed that, too -- and in this case I think it was the smart call. I would rather punt ten times like we did and bury an extremely suspect Fins offense deep than take chances with a QB in his 2nd NFL start & and banged-up o-line and have Thomas or Seau do to us what Simmons did to them. Like Marvin said last year, "keep your head down and shovel." That's what we did last night: we kept shoveling, and finally hit paydirt.
