walzav29
Even with Palmer's interception, there was enough time left that if the defense would have stopped them Palmer would have had another shot. It is a ridiculous suckwad defensive performance, and it makes me sick. It seems that the defense will be worst than last year. I do expect O'Neal and Simmons to make the D slightly improved just because they aren't rookies, but not enough to not drive us crazy. Does anyone think they have the "talent on defense to improve this year? Or is it just a matter of getting a couple of free agents to go along with the young bucks next year? Nothing is more frustrating in football than watching a team go up and down the God Damned field on your team. If we lose next week we're @#$!@@! It just won't be good. Tampa Bengal
Hold on a second it's just one game so far, we had a couple of rookies starting and who's to say the Jets aren't the team to beat this year. I agree with you on the d not showing up, it was one of my fears this year too. But I'm sure when everyone is healthy the D should improve ( insert hope here). There isn't any reason to start thinking of next year just yet. Marvin Lewis is a Defense guru if anything needs fixing on defense he's the guy to do it. Hang in there its just one game so far. HoosierCat
I second Tampa's point about our rookie starters. Pennington picked on Madieu mercilessly. The kid has great speed and looks to be a sure tackler, but he wasn't playing the ball at all yesterday, or bumping the receiver off the line of scrimmage. He's a rook, and new and the position, and yesterday it showed. Caleb Miller continually got blocked out of plays. I think the D would have significantly better with O'Neal and Simmons in the game. skyline
Also...our D-line was completely dominated, and we should certainly expect them to play better. But...Don't forget that the Jets have a VERY good o-line. Cincy's d-line wasn't run over by just anybody. Give credit to the Jets o-line for playing an excellent game. cincy9275
the defense was very very sad there are no excuses for that kind of play regardless of who was not playing.that was horrible. you cant win at all with that kind of defense.but i do belive in marvin and he will get this fixed so we will be at least respectable. if we are pissed just think how it makes lewis feels. we will be ok
kingwilly
Skyline...I disagree.Last year we were 25th against the run. Nothing has been fixed. It is basically the same personell. Letting PROVEN D-Linemen go by in FA burns even worse watching the Jets line and Martin roll us like that.Wenster was LAME. Give me Ross or Spearman any day over his late, confused ass. He got handled and tricked so often, some plays I'd just watch him so I could see how far away from the play he was. Usually 3-10 yrds. That is horrible for our MLB.BTW, Simmons would have helped quite a bit and O'neal probably would not have given up the long pass for TD. The fact is even with the Carson pick and Rudi fumble, all we needed were a couple of stops and we'd have had 1-2 more offensive series to try to put up points. All in all that was a winnable game and the D showed how untalented and deficient it really is. SAD SAD SAD.On the bright side....Miami is god-awful and we will crush those freaking mini-whales into blubber oil.

Did I ever say that our defense played well, or that we should be satisfied with the performance? All I'm saying is that we were going up against a very solid o-line. Yes, we should have played MUCH better than we did. Lewis knows it, and our defense knows it. Still, I doubt this is the only time the Jets o-line will dominate a game this year.It is entirely possible that our defense will be awful all year long. One game, though, especially with 3 rookies taking a ton of snaps, isn't enough to make a complete judgment.

One game, though, especially with 3 rookies taking a ton of snaps, isn't enough to make a complete judgment.Agreed! I've stated a couple of times how bad our defense looked on Sunday. But that is just an opinion of that game, not how the season will go. The Jets O-Line did a great job. But I also think our D-line needs help. I saw the push the Jets O-line got on several running plays. Our front four got pushed straight back. All Martin had to do was follow them and get 5 yards before being touched. However, it is still just one game. I think the Dolphins will not have as much success as the Jets did.Go Bengals!BengalBob
Kirkendall
It seems that the defense will be worst than last year.Yes, but compare it to last seasons opening day performance, which since 2002 has been bad all around. This is the third opening day game in a row our rush defense looked sad... but as we saw last season, the Bengals turned things around in an overall aspect. But I agree, the d-line is in need of revision; for a couple years now.
BleedinGreenNC
Hey people, i just wanted to give you guys props on how well your team played yesterday!! You guys are definitely going to have a great season! Palmer looked incredible out there, and had me on the edge of my seat during the whole game, at any minute he could launch a TD pass from anywhere. What a great QB!! I hope you guys rip Miami apart piece by piece. Later!

Enjoy your full season with Pennington and what looks like a revitalized Martin.
