Kirkendall
ANAHEIM, Calif. - The NFL has approached Anaheim city officials about possibly building a stadium complex for an NFL franchise that could begin play as soon as 2008. The area has been without an NFL team since the Rams moved from Anaheim to St. Louis and the Raiders went from Los Angeles to Oakland before the 1995 season. "We're evaluating a possible stadium project in Anaheim with city officials along with the three sites in the Los Angeles area," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said late Wednesday by telephone from New York. "The discussions are exploratory and preliminary at this point." Aiello referred to the Los Angeles Coliseum, where the Raiders played before returning to Oakland; the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, and a proposed site in Carson. "We're working off a time line that would have us make a decision next May," Aiello said. "As far as when a team could start playing there, it could be '08, it could be '09. We haven't addressed the issue of a team in the Los Angeles area. "Our sole purpose at this time is to develop some stadium alternatives for the league. This is part of our due diligence in terms of identifying outstanding potential stadium sites in the best markets." The proposed site in Anaheim is located next to Angel Stadium, where the Rams played. Anaheim Arena, where the NHL's Mighty Ducks of Anaheim play, is also located nearby. "There is significant interest from the Anaheim City Council and City management in bringing additional professional sports franchises to the city of Anaheim," Mayor Curt Pringle said. "The success and popularity of our teams — the Anaheim Angels and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim — prove that fans from all over California travel to Anaheim to watch quality franchises and having an NFL team return to our city would be a welcome addition." John Nicoletti, Anaheim's public information manager, said NFL officials have made several visits to the Anaheim and the prospective site. Tampa Bengal
It's funny that the NFL is now going to the burbs to get the L.A. team deal done.I guess they figured with the whole missed deadline and Houston getting the team, that it would be easier to go outside the city rather than deal with L.A. proper. I'm sure that the people of L.A. want a team I just can't believe that someone in our nations 2nd largest city can't step up and get worked out. Kirkendall
Yea, I agree.I also think that LA should have an NFL team. They are too big a market with limitless merchandise-wise not to have the sure profits.
kevnz
Oh I think the NFL needs to stop prostituting itself to LA just to get a team...I mean come on now...Both the Rams and the Raiders left....Do we really think the fickle LA market can sustain a new franchise? Will LA fans sit through a few losing seasons??? No. The only way an expansion franchise will survive in LA is to let them have a lot of concessions to make them competative right away, things like extra draft choices, extra cap space, extra expansion picks from other teams....Does anyone think the other owners will agree to that? Nope, not a chance in hell...LA's only hope is getting a team like the Colts or Saints or Vikings and hoping that the cash injection a new stadium will bring will help them....Besides, 33 teams is pretty damn awkward and that is something that the NFL will consider as well. LA fans have proven that they won't support a team that is just " competitive ". They want champions and thats it. As soon as the team hits a tough stretch ... they jump ship like rats. It'd be a lot quicker and easier to let LA have the super bowl every year and then call whichever team that wins the Los Angeles ___________ fill in blank. That way the NFL gets their money ( without trying to get a team in there full time ) ..... LA fans get to brag how great " their " team is ( without having to support them through any bad stretches ) .... and basically ALL the Whores are happy at the same time. jditty47
to have a team in LA they need a good stadium. And what entails a good stadium? ALOT of luxery boxes and alot of luxery seating in the front for celebrities and big money ppl. There are alot more of them in LA than anywhere else. All they need to be is competitive and it will work. If they suck, it wont work, as it wouldnt in alot of other fical places.
