daredevil25 Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Yeah, but I wanted a look at Deangelo Hall's best "Lost Ball in High Weeds" impersonation vs. Moss. The funny thing about that play is so many good CBs get beat by Moss and people harp over a veteran making a veteran move to deceive a rookie CB. It worked to perfection as well. Quote
schweinhart Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 You're right Daredevil. It's unfair to gauge Hall by Moss. I'll say your free safety will be busy vs. upper eschelon WRs this year providing help for Hall, though, because Hall is too green to be expected to be a shut-down CB. Way too much cushion off the line, too, by Hall. But Hall will improve and Chad should provide some more lessons for him to learn Sat. Quote

I said this on the Falcons board, Hall getting beat by Moss, Johnson, or Coles (we play the Skins after you guys) is no biggie to me. If the exchange is Hall getting beat in preseason and his roookie year, then I can have the rest of his career featuring him shutting down WR's I'll take that everyday of the week. Quote

chrishcovga Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 1. Offensive line is still full of run-blockers and not pass protectors.- They'll be able to open holes for Dunn and Duckett, but when Vick has to pass on those 3rd and longs, he's in for some trouble. - Eric Beverly has been struggling according to the Camp reports done by 790TheZone sports radio show.Mostly correct, but whoever said Eric Beverly is struggling is lying, he was moved to TE because we had significant depth at G but NO depth at TE and he played the position.2. The third preseason game always means that the starters will play into the second half, but I don't see that possible for Vick! - He's nursing a sore Hamstring and he's gonna have to take off sometime during Saturday nights game. - If he tweaks it early, Say good night to whatever you thought Vick was gonna do for you guys this year. Hamstrings take forever to heal properly !All this is known, I'm not 3. Hasn't he been a middle linebacker since he basically came into the League.. His biggest knock is that he makes a sh*t load of tackles , but they're always 5 and 6 yards down field and never behind the line.Incorrect, he came into the league and played his first three years at WOLB. Like I said its his "natural" position. Brooking is still a bum. He wasn't any good at pass rushing at weakside, so he was moved to the Middle. But because he was caught out of position so many times and was always in " Chase " instead of the point of attack. - !- He got moved back outside and away from the tight end!If Brooking was the man ..then why did Chris Draft ( also class of '98 ) out play him when they went to the 3-4..? Why is Chris Draft your starting Middle Linebacker? Why is Chris Draft the first linebacker interviewed by the local sports stations, and is a regular of the 2 - Live Stews ( Doug and Ryan Stewart ) 790TheZone. Radio Station. What exactly does Brooking do for the community..? I hear all about Chris Drafts' charity efforts and his local causes, Just goes to show ya' sometimes it's not always good to draft the local guy ! - He's got 6.5 sacks for his 7 year career... Brian Simmons had that alone in 2001 ! Quote
kitared Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 I live in Atlanta and will be at the game Saturday night. It will be interesting to see if they can keep up the intensity after the New England victory. I'm excited to see how the defense does against Vick.I watch the Bengals at Sidelines sportsbar in Kennesaw during the season if anyone is from the Atlanta area and would like to hook up to watch the games together. Might be at that game, not sure yet!! But, I guess I won't be wearing my TJ Duckett jersey that day. I feel like part of the Bengals family now Quote

schweinhart Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 If you loudly point out how Chad fares vs. Hall and the free safety, you probably won't make it out alive Seriously, the Bengals O ought to be fluid for this one vs. a dubious D.And speaking of dubious D, the Lightning and Thunder of Dunn and Duckett ought to be an excellent test for Clemons, Thornton, and Hardy since the Falcs OL is pretty solid on the right side. You should see a good ballgame. daredevil25 Posted August 27, 2004 Report Posted August 27, 2004 Brooking is still a bum. He wasn't any good at pass rushing at weakside, so he was moved to the Middle. But because he was caught out of position so many times and was always in " Chase " instead of the point of attack. - !- He got moved back outside and away from the tight end!Any knowledgeable Falcon fan will tell you, Brooking was moved to MLB because we had significant depth at OLB and since Tuggle retired (or was forced to retire depending on the person) we needed a MLB that could play. All your reasoning is instantly dead seeing how the new staff put him back at WOLB because it is similar to his WMLB role in our 3-4 defense. If Brooking was the man ..then why did Chris Draft ( also class of '98 ) out play him when they went to the 3-4..? Why is Chris Draft your starting Middle Linebacker? Why is Chris Draft the first linebacker interviewed by the local sports stations, and is a regular of the 2 - Live Stews ( Doug and Ryan Stewart ) 790TheZone. Radio Station. I hear all about Chris Drafts' charity efforts and his local causes, Just goes to show ya' sometimes it's not always good to draft the local guy ! - He's got 6.5 sacks for his 7 year career... LMAO, you're funny. Draft and Brooking were moved to better suit each man. Draft is no good in coverage and a better step up tackler, so they moved him to the middle. Brooking is faster and a much better player when he's allowed freedom off the guards he would ALWAYS face in our 3-4 defense. That is why the switch to our 4-3 base is much better, the 3-4 let guards get out to our LBs so of course we had to make a lot of tackles 4-5 yards downfield. Despite this Brooking is still one of the leaders in tackles behind the LOS. I don't know why you bring up who the radio station interviews, but it tells me you don't have a solid argument because you know little about the Falcons outside what you're told. You may live in Atlanta, or near it whatever, but that doesn't make you any more knowledgeable than myself, living in Sacramento. Just ask Se7en Dust when he gets here, he'll say the exact same things. P.S. And before you start thinking that either one of us is Brooking-lovers, that would be highly untrue. I've been very critical of his coverage, and his lack of big plays. However, the man didn't make 3 straight pro-bowls off the fans "overrating" him. Quote

I've been very critical of his coverage, and his lack of big plays. However, the man didn't make 3 straight pro-bowls off the fans "overrating" him. What Depth at Linebacker did you have..? LOL..1. Jessie Tuggle was forced to retire because of Salary cap and age, he was still the best linebacker on that team. - i.e. ask any Falcons fans!2. Keith Brooking was exposed on the weakside before, and he'll be exposed again. If he's so quick then why does he struggle so much in man on man coverage with backs and tight ends..? The 3-4 should have allowed him to play passing lanes more, but since he's usually lost in coverage we understand why he struggles!3. Here's a tid bit of information for ya'... The Middle Linebacker does play passing lanes and is expected to man up in nickel situations on backs in the flat and tight ends over the middle as underneath support especially in the 4-3 which Mora ( JR ) put you guys back in... duh ! - So Chris Draft being " PROMOTED " to starting MLB is a testament to how well he performs, and how much Brooking is being overpaid that 30 million dollars Blank and co. gave him. - Marvin Lewis said it best, 30 million for a linebacker that doesn't rush the passer i.e. ( Takeo Spikes ) not in my defense. - So Brooking went to 3 straight Pro Bowls- Atlanta is marketed and Cincinnati isn't. - Spikes put up better numbers each year while with Cincy' as did Brian Simmons, but they didn't get Pro Bowl nods because they were Bengals, not that they didn't deserve it, but rather because ignan't Falcon fans vote again and again , and again and yet again to get a guy like Brooking in, while deserving players get left out.- It's just the politics of football. -4. You're Falcons get national attention because of another overhyped player in Michael Vick. - He's done nothing. So he can run, but he's not accurate, So he has a strong arm, sure looks it when he overthrows intermediate passes the same way Jeff Blake did 10 seasons ago here in Cincy'. Seen it done it..- I've asked this question before and most Falcon fans don't even know it..- Who was the last Falcon Quarterback to start every game of a 16 game schedule..Nope not Vick..lol, Nope not Chandler, Nope not Miller, .. you have to go all the way back to Steve Bartkowski to find a Falcon Quarterback that started and finished a complete season. - Falcon Quarterbacks always get hurt, and the offensive line that Dan Reeves left for Mora will put Vick back in ICU this year again.-Debate semantics all you want, but facts are facts. schweinhart Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 A glaring LB weakness for the Falcs vs. Bengals should be the strongside. Matt Stewart looked like an arm tackling flop vs. the Vikes and the Falcs Dline was blown off the line by the Vikes Oline. Rudi should break free a few times behind Anderson and Williams. Quote
wookie Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 I'd like to see a 4 -5 yard per carry average from Rudi, and Palmer continue his 9.7 yard per pass average in tonights game. If Palmer can do that throughout the season he will have the highest yards per pass of any QB. Salisbury said that the highest so far was 8.3 by Steve McNair a couple of years ago. Quote
