Playoff History

I don't normally spend time researching this kind of stuff, but since I am dog sitting my son's Beagle, and thanks to pro-football-reference.com for making this search relatively easy, I decided to dive in.

I've researched all the old AFL/Expansion teams that have been in existence around the time of the Bengals, in 1968, or after.

Here's how the playoff records play out.

I have listed them from the teams with the most playoff wins to the least.

Teams / Playoff Record / Super Bowls Won

PATS/RAIDERS 25-18 3 SBs (Ironic that they both have the exact same playoff stats)

BRONCOS 20-18 2 SBs

DOLPHINS 20-20 2 SBs

RAVENS 14-7 2 SB

BILLS 14-15

TITANS 14-19 (This record dates back to the Houston Oilers birthed in 1960)

JETS 12-13 1 SB

SEAHAWKS 12-12 1 SB

CHARGERS 11-11

CHIEFS 8-15 1 SB

SAINTS 7-9 1 SB

FALCONS 7-12

PANTHERS 6-5 (They birthed in 1993)

BUCS 6-9 (They birthed in 1976)

JAGUARS 5-6 (They birthed in 1995)

BENGALS 5-12 (They birthed in 1968)

TEXANS 2-2 (They birthed in 2002)

Interestingly how so many blame Marvin but this franchise has never been very playoff productive. I still think one of the roots of the problem goes back to PBs ego led decision to choose Tiger Johnson over Bill Walsh as HC when PB stepped down.

Walsh could have made a difference.

Can't go back though.

Hope to roll with what we've got!

Nice list. I would only make two changes:

Toss the Ravens. I don't care what fiction the NFL dreamed up, that's the Browns. Then beneath the Texans there ought to be a listing of FACTORY OF SADNESS 0-1.

Agree. The Ravens are the Browns 1.0 and the expansions team in Cleveland, circa 1999, are the Browns 2.0.

Sad that Modell left Cleveland for financial reasons, won a Super Bowl then sold the team for financial reasons.

Denver, Oakland, Boston/NE and Miami have obviously been the most successful of the group.

I would be interested in seeing the list of the old nfl teams during that era. Giants, Niners, Steelers and Cowboys would be my guesses for the most successful. Lots of futility after that.
