BengalBax
Oh Jeezus...didn't I hear this don't panic crap in 2002 when we started the pre-season so badly?? Or last year when we went into our 1-3 season ending dive?? Don't worry, it will be ok! We will make the playoffs! I like the Bengals so I refuse to see reality!!! Face it guys, a 8-8 season got our heads inflated....REALLY look at this team!!! A starting QB with no REGULAR SEASON GAME EXPERIENCE! A still unproven RB and his backup is a ROOKIE HOLDOUT WHO IS FAR BEHIND Warrick is hurting..can he play? The D-Line is still BAD..... Deltha O'Neal....you say to trust Marvin?? I TRUST SHANAHAN...look at what he has done as coach of the Broncos. When Marvin MAKES the playoffs I will listen to his advice. We are NOT a playoff team guys. Be a fan, don't be blind. You'll see....

The preseason o and d's run vanilla style game plans....just don't get hurt sorta moves. What the hell has Shanahan ever done??? Two Super Bowls? Ok man, let me break this down of for you..You are RIGHT he needs playing time..BUT..while he is getting that experience we are losing games due to his INEXPERIENCE. Does that make any sense? Please don't say something like this then troll that we will make the playoffs. We won't with Palmer at the helm. Forget it. This is basically a building season for Plamer so here comes another 7-9/6-10 season and a barrage of late night Bengal jokes..Warrick has had knee problems since late last year. Remember the Cleveland finale? He missed it bub. It's August. Where is he??? 8 months hasn't got him ready...you actually feel good about this guys playing a whole season? And his backup is T.j. and talented yet inexperienced Kelly Washington! You can't win like that. The D did do okay against the run...minus their feature back Charlie Garner...we played out starters into the second quarter. Plamer showed me nothing and our defense play OK against MIKE (my neck was recently broken) Alstott. Not enough for me.And you hit the nail on the head. 2 super bowls. Don't gimme that argument man. You wanna go there? Ok Bellichick had Brady and a great D who couldn't win with that! Billick had Ray Lewis and one of the best D's ever, who couldn't win with that? That's the point man, those teams have those players due to good drafting, scouting, playcalling, and judgement. Show me something Marvin.Case closed. HoosierCat
Post-game thoughts: Bengals did OK. First string O had typical jitters, need to calm down & catch the ball. Palmer seemed fine. Starting D was OK, TB TDs happened after the 2nd/3rd stringers started rotating in. STs iffy. Opie still needs work on the KOs; still Mr. Automatic on FGs. Punting still junk. Return game stank. Backup DBs/LBs need to make plays, not "almosts."Heard Lap talking about PW, says the bad knee is arthritic, described it as "not pretty." TE position all busted up by pregame injury this game, too. Like Lap's idea of going with just 2 QBs (Kitna and Palmer) on active roster & use extra roster spot on a receiver or TE.Final thought: Bengals football back good. Please oh please tell me how Carson Palmer lost this game for the team??? The Pick was TJ's fault. The fumble was by a rookie that was only playing then cause it's a preseason game and has only been with the team for little more than a week.Hey, I never said we were gonna make the playoffs this year...I said we have a real shot at it....But then about 28 other teams do too (everybody but Arizona, San Diego, and Cleveland) Get over your predictions of doom.Warrick only had surgery a little while ago...Pittman is the best back at Tampa, Garner is an old beat down RB.Funny, I seem to recall a very large ring on Marvins finger too. jditty47
case closed? man you are a blind and ignorant bengals fan. How can u say carson did nothing good? 42 yard strike to Kelley and then a dart to CJ on 3 and 16 for 22 yds. His int wasnt his fault it was TJ's who might not even make the team after this poor performance. Man give me a break, its the first time hes been hit for real in over a year and a half - he looked fine under that kind of circumstances. kybengalsfan
At the scrimmage last Friday night I was impressed with Chad Hayes; not tonite. Dropped two passes that should have been caught. May be the end for him. For all the hoopla about the secondary being much improved, it sure didn't show; TB's quarterbacks passing against them at will. I am afraid it's going to be another long year for the Bengals D. Do you think Frazier may be a little too laid back as a coordinator?

wookie
I gotta chime in on this one, didn't get to see the game but I did see the breakdown after the game. Amid Bengal jokes, which will NOT go away even if they make the Playoffs because its too ingrained in Sportcasters' minds...its like its taught in broadcasting 101 at Bristol U., there were some decent highlights.1) the Palmer pick was a tipped ball on which Rhonde Barber made a very nice shoe-string catch. Palmer made some nice throws, looked good on the run, and will learn not to toss the ball into the open field when he's about to be sacked. He still ended up with more yardage than Kitna with 4 fewer completions.2) Washington looked really good, he will push Warrick, and maybe take over the 2nd spot. Johnson and Washington looked to be the strongest receivers on the field in terms of ability, skill, and physically.3) Cut the rook some slack...he'll improve and should not be putting the ball on the turf much or at all in the final preseason game.4) starting D did not give up much, need better production out of the backups. Did they make Chris Simms look that good or is he the real deal? Maybe we're seeing the Bucs mid to end of the year starter. All in all I don't think the final score is all that indicative of the Bengals future this season. Sean Salisbury had some really good things to say about Palmer. He believes he was the right choice for Cincy and that he'll be a big star in the league.3 more games to go!!! Against good teams, so this will be a good way to warm up for the season. Keep a stiff upper lip...remember, we're Bengals fans and we've been able to survive this long without quality football. We're due our reward for staying loyal!! We'll be back to the days of WHO DEY under Lewis. :player:
Tiger Stripes
wow first preseason game already over and man do we have some work to do. the starters that looked good are palmer, rudi, and webster i think we look ok for the first game. caleb miller looked awesome the dude was everywhere im excited about this guy. whos this new guy on the board that called marvin a piece of s**t? this guy needs to be taken out back and beat down! chrishcovga
Wow, where did all the gloom and glum come from around here..? It's frickin preseason Iceholes..! Throw me a frickin bone why don't you.. Can I once get a preseason game that doesn't predict the entire season..., just once ..?- likes -1. Palmer - Only one out there next to Chad and Rudi that didn't appear nervous. Don't expect Chad's drop to happen to often this year! 2. Rudi - vision was good, and plugged away even when hole was closed. - O - Line has to stay healthy to keep quarterback healthy plain and simple.Dislikes - 1. Pass Rush - It's almost sickening watching these guys come off the ball. - I've seen retirement villages go faster than them. - We're gonna have to get better here really really fast ! - Johnathan Hayes - don't be surprised if the Turk asks for your playbook.2. Pass Coverage - Too much tentativeness. - Make the refs make the call , just don't touch a receiver at all.. that's just stupid..! Personal reflection of the game - Bad players make bad plays. No one who has ever played organized sports appreciates the guy that practices really really hard, and then tanks it on the field during the game ! T.J. Housmanzadeh has got to go ! Pass Coverage - Too much tentativeness. - Make the refs make the call , just don't touch a receiver at all.. that's just stupid..!Maybe on the 1st series to see how the game is going to be called, but you gotta keep those penalties down...they're usually not just 5 yarders.Personal reflection of the game - Bad players make bad plays. No one who has ever played organized sports appreciates the guy that practices really really hard, and then tanks it on the field during the game ! T.J. Housmanzadeh has got to go !Agreed again, it won't be the 1st time I've thought that T.J. will be cut. He's a good guy and I hope he catches on somewhere, like maybe Miami. They just got Antonio Freeman for 1 year but can still use WR's.Maybe Broussard wins his spot on the roster. He's not big in stature but he seems to be able to make big plays. Chad Johnson
my opinions.... Chad you messed up but who cares, you don't because its preseason and It means nothingThe fumble by perry oh well it was closeIve hated TJ for years so after tonite he's gone...Bastard made it look like Palmer had an int....Palmers only mistake was the throw the ball to avoid the sack play...K WASH looked good....real good....I noticed that I didnt see some people playing like Kiewan, Pat Johnson, Maurice Mann, Askew too much...I loved the fact tha Levi was on Simeon Rice....He needed to go against him all night...I love to see him get the needed experience against guys like him...I noticed Stacey Andrews... Once he learns the ins and outs WHEW... WILLY BETTER MENTOR THIS KIDJermi Johnson didnt play so get used to Lynch....this depresses me a bit but i think it was there for a reasonCaleb looked pumped and thats good...If only Mr. LG steinbach was healthy

wookie
It will be a long season.... Baxie, you and the Barb should hang out together...misery loves company. IT WAS ONE PRESEASON GAME!!! It was against a team with an excellent defense and 1st teamers were pretty much even. Half a dozen or so Bengals, most starters sat out with nagging injuries, and the backups gave up some late scores.Focus on the positive, wait to see how much they improve, and let them get to November bfore you stand on your soapbox with "The End is Coming" signs. TippCityRick
My two cents . . . Palmer looked fine. Got the offense in and out of plays, made two good adjustments and one bad one. All in all kid's got an arm and a head. We'll see Saturday what kind of adjuster he is.Run defense was fine but overpursues too much. This is what got us killed against Denver last year. Rush was horrible and coverage was below average. Two must improves.Special teams must get more of a flow. Over/under on yardage was way in Tampa's favor.I believe it will be time for Housh to go. As was said, he's a good guy and a professional, but Marvin's body language toward TJ after one return was positively frigid. Marvin want's guys that will make plays on Sunday, period.Perry isn't known as a fumbler. I think that was pure jitters. Frankly I'd rather see that now then against the Jets.Caleb Miller was amazing. His speed will make him a real living in the league. Stacy Andrews also stood out. He's raw, but man can that kid punch and move!!Where were Madeau and Ratliff? Didn't see much from them which isn't a good thing.Overall, this was a fairly typical first preseason game. Both teams had good things and bad things happen. Can't really tell much about a team at this stage (except that pass rush . . . ugly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) EdwardG
Can't really tell much about a team at this stage Absolutely right. You can't tell much about the team yet. In real games, the starters play the whole game. In real games, the defense blitzes. In real games, TJ Houshmandzadeh would be sitting at home waiting for a phone call. jditty47
ya i didnt hear anything on willaims or ratliff...did they even play? My guess now is that with warrick kinda hurt and will be hampered all season most likely, washington will control that 2nd spot but warrick will play alot as well. Like they will rotate the 2 receiver sets but both be in on 3 receiver sets.Special teams coverage needs to be better but im not that worried about it, our returners arent the ones that will be starting for the jets game. I have a hardon for this season. Watching palmer throw that fireball to CJ across the middle was a thing of beauty. He has an awesome arm. I cant wait to see him play for a full 4 quarters. Our coverage needs to be 300% better. U cannot allow a team to go 9/9 on their first 2-3 drives.
