It feels weird to be rooting for a 49er in the Super Bowl but yeah, I'm pulling for Justin. In hindsight he was criminally misused here.

Good luck to Ahmad Brooks too. I always thought they gave up on him way too quick.

From a Justin Smith standpoint, yeah, I can see rooting for them.

But good God, that just feels wrong.

Happy for him though.

Just goes to show that sometimes a player is just in the wrong scheme with the wrong team.

Its painful to root for the 49ers but they have so many players and coaches I like >…< Smith, willis, keapernick and harbaugh

Pain is bad - don't do it.

As for Smith it seems glaringly obvious to me that he was a relatively average 4-3 end and an extremely good 3-4 end. Simple as that.

Eh I thought Justin was a great 4-3 end who gave it his all on every play,Sure he didn't have high sack numbers.

He also had no talent around him when he was here where 49ers have tons

After his rookie year, his sack total fell off dramatically. He had (and really still has) a single move - bull rush. That doesn't get to the QB too often in a 4-3. He essentially became a good run stopping end. Nice, but not particularly a hard-to-find kind of player. There's no question that the d line in SF is better now than the Bengals line was when Smith was here, but he's pretty much the same player to my eye. His talent just fits that scheme better. To your point, his main contribution is demanding double teams and allowing Aldon Smith to rack up huge sack numbers.
