I'm simply saying that I think it was a good thing we got him as an UDFA.

That having to do with how things work out is another story.

I agree. I'm just still absorbing how the new CBA changes the equation. For a long time, being a UDFA was only marginally better that having to get a real job, and it was that reference by Zimmer that triggered my comment. I'm not sure that's as true as it has been anymore. I'll be interested to see if the percentage of UDFAs making teams rises in the next few years. I suspect it will.

The Bengals have announced the signings of 14 college free agents, led by Arizona State linebacker Vontaze Burfict and including three players with local or regional ties.

Linebacker Grant Hunter (Butler) played at Lakota West High School, defensive end  Julian Miller (West Virginia) is from Columbus and played at Beechcroft High School. Running back Rodney Stewart (Colorado) is from Westerville and played at Brookhaven High School.

Today’s full listing of CFAs signed: Bowling Green OL Ben Bojicic, Western Kentucky CB Derrius Brooks, Arizona State LB Vontaze Burfict, Central Oklahoma LS Bryce Davis,  Colorado QB Tyler Hansen, Indiana State WR Justin Hilton, Butler DL Grant Hunter, Arkansas State DE Brandon Joiner, West Virginia DE Justin Miller, Connecticut WR Kashif Moore, New Mexico State WR Taveon Rogers, Connecticut OL Mike Ryan, Colorado RB Rodney Stewart, Clemson OT Landon Walker.

With the signees, that means the roster is up to 86 players, four shy of the 90-player preseason limit.

It was reported through various sources that UCLA S Tony Dye, New Mexico DB Bubba Forrest, Kansas State S Emmanuel Lamur and Notre Dame OG Trevor Robinson, had agreed to terms, but they were not on the list released on the team. It is possible they could be announced at a later time.

The CFA signees will have their first work with the team during the May 11-13 minicamp for rookies and eligible first-year players at Paul Brown Stadium.

The Bengals have also arranged for a number of unsigned players to work with the team during the May 11-13 minicamp on a tryout basis.

Four of the tryout players currently set for the camp have local/regional connections are:

–TE Josh Chichester played in college at Louisville and is from West Chester (Lakota West HS).

–CB Reuben Haley played at the University of Cincinnati and is from Mount Healthy.

–S Patrick McClellan played at Eastern Kentucky and is from Maineville (Moeller HS).

–QB Tony Pike played at the University of Cincinnati and is from Reading (Reading HS).
