BENGALTHEM
It seems like a lot of people are concerned about the D-line, specifically DT, as am I. Stats don't lie. But is Tony Williams that bad? Is he the reason everyone is concerned about the run defense? Are you saying if we added Warren Sapp or any other available DT in free agency or draft we would have been immediately better off this year?Truthfully, at the beginning of last year Tony Williams was the last person I was concerned with...... as far as what he brought to the table on that D-line. Because the year before, Tony Williams was solid imo. My point is DTs are kind of scarce these days. I don't think we would have immediately upgraded if we picked up someone in free agency or the draft. I think a lot of teams would sign Williams in a heart beat. Plus, who's to say Williams can't return to how he was this year. It's not like he got hurt last year. Plus Williams is playing with a chip on his shoulder, so he's got something to prove. And, I think he'll be a free agent next year,...........so you know he's gonna bring it every down. I look for Williams to do big things this year. HoosierCat
Williams was the most likely casualty if we had signed Sapp or Gardener. He's making a good chunk of change in the last year of his deal, so he's an attractive cut from a salary cap point of view; he just turned 29, so he's on the downhill side of his career; and his production dropped off significantly last year--he struggled (like many) in the new scheme, and generated only a pair of sacks vs. 5, 4, 5, and 5 in the previous 4 years.I don't think Tony's that bad. Had we signed either of the two DTs we chased, I would have liked them to have kept him as a backup/rotation guy. But I don't think the Bengals are going to rush to resign him come the end of the season.

chrishcovga
Well you can light a fire on Tony Williams all you want , all you'll end up doing with him is turning his sausage ass over to make sure he's cooked on both sides, cause He's done.!- He's always been a "tweener" type player, has always worn down in the latter part of the game, and hasn't made a significant play in years. All of his sacks come early in the game, but come 4th quarter when we need a stop he's the slowest out of his stance time and time again. He just doesn't have the legs to play the Tackle spot and dominate, which is why he stays around 290 lbs. cause too much girth would slow him down more. - If he had a couple more inches on him ( 6'1 ) he probably would have been a good fit for a strong side DE, but this is definitely going to be his last year with Cincy !
