kingwilly Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 I liked Merling coming out, could be a good pick-up before the draft starts. Would cement the DT rotation and remove the need from the board, IMHO./>http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/04/23/dolphins-cut-phillip-merling/ Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 He didn't appear to ever do anything while there with Miami, so who knows ??I'm not familiar with him much, but remember him coming out of college.I would have to question the lack of production... Quote

Wonder what he knows? Quote
HoosierCat Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 Merling would be an interesting pickup. He really wasn't suited for Miami's 3-4. He's much more a 4-3 DE type. That said, aren't the Dolphins switching to a 4-3 this year? If so you have to wonder why they would let him go.Certainly worth kicking the tires. Quote

He could play inside, or outside in a 4-3, like Fanaene had done, though i see him more as a DT given how the Bengals rotate thier DT's and DE's. He's a versatile guy, more of an elephant DE. 6'4" 295. Quote

I think he would have been much better playing at his normal weight as a 4-3 DE. Quote
