jjakq27
Former Bengals Head Coach Bill "Tiger" Johnson passed away earlier today. He was the second coach of the Bengals, taking over in 1976 after Paul Brown retired. He was the person that got the job over Bill Walsh due to a promise that Brown made to Johnson and a lack of trust in Walsh. It was also important to Brown that Johnson do things in the same way he had done them while he was the coach. In this way he could easily judge whether things were being done properly or not. The Bengals missed the playoffs even though the finished with a 10-4 record in 1976. The team slipped to 8-6 in 1977 and Johnson was replaced by Homer Rice after starting 0-5 in 1978. Johnson later returned to the Bengals as a member of Sam Wyche's staff in 1985.Wyche and Lapham's commentshttp://cincinnati.co...-tiger-johnson/
