Best of the Battle of Ohio

With Sunday's game being the 75th renewal in the Battle of Ohio, we take a look at the top games and memories from the series:

Best Bengals' wins

Nov. 15, 1970: Bengals 14, Browns 10 - Paul Brown's first win over his former namesake franchise and against the man who fired him, Art Modell. It was part of a string of seven straight wins that propel the Bengals to the AFC Central title after starting 1-6.

"This is my best victory," said an emotional Brown, holding back tears during the press conference. "This somehow makes coming back worthwhile."

Nov. 28, 2004: Bengals 58, Browns 48 - The 106 combined points are the second-most scored in an NFL regular season game. Rudi Johnson ran for 202 yards and two touchdowns and Carson Palmer had his first game where he threw for four touchdowns. Deltha O'Neal picked off Kelly Holcomb and ran it back 31 yards to put the Bengals up by 10 late.

To Cleveland fans, the game was been commonly referred to as the "Butch Davis Panic Attack" game. Davis had a panic attack four hours before kickoff and resigned as coach two days later.

Dec. 30, 1990: Bengals 21, Browns 14 - In a driving rain, Boomer Esiason hit Eric Ball with the 48-yard game-winning touchdown pass in the fourth quarter which gave the Bengals the win. They would clinch the division later that night after Houston lost to Pittsburgh. The Browns finished the season 3-13, which at the time was their worst record in team history.

Best Browns' wins

Dec. 21, 1980: Browns 27, Bengals 24 - A 22-yard field goal by Don Cockroft with 1:25 remaining gave the Browns their first division championship since 1971. It was especially gratifying for Modell since it came against the duo of Brown and Forrest Gregg, the ex-Browns head coach who was in his first year with the Bengals.

Dec. 14, 1986: Browns 34, Bengals 3 - Another division-clinching victory for the Browns but this one wasn't even close. The Browns attacked from the first play when Bernie Kosar completed a 66-yard pass play to Reggie Langhorne. Three plays later, Kevin Mack plowed in from the one and the rout was on.

Oct. 11, 1970: Browns 30, Bengals 27 - The first meeting in the series which took place at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium. The Browns, under former Brown assistant Blanton Collier, rallied from a 10-point deficit to win. After the game, the Browns presented Modell with the game ball in the locker room. Collier and Brown did not have a postgame handshake.

Most memorable

Dec. 17, 1995: Browns 26, Bengals 10 - The Browns went out to a 26-3 lead at halftime, but the game is remembered for it being the final one at Municipal Stadium and the last Battle of Ohio game against the original Browns. Things were rather calm until the second half when fans began ripping out seats and throwing them onto the field or simply walking out with them.

For those who were there, it remains one of the more surreal days ever.
