CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Reds director of amateur scouting Terry Reynolds today announced the signing of La Grange (TX) High School RHP Homer Bailey, the club's first pick (seventh overall) in June's First-Year Player Draft.

Bailey (6-4, 190), 18, recently was named USA TODAY's High School Player of the Year. In 2004 at La Grange High he went 15-0, 0.68 with 201 strikeouts in 92.2 innings pitched. In his 4-year prep career, he went 41-4, 0.98 with 536 strikeouts in 298 innings.

He was rated by Baseball America as the high school pitcher with the best fastball, best breaking ball and best command. He was also rated by that publication as the high school pitcher closest to making it to the Major Leagues.

Born David Bailey, he was nicknamed "Homer" after his great-grandfather
