HairOnFire
Odom Falls Prey To Injuries AgainBy Marc HardinFox Sports Ohio/Bengals InsiderAugust 25th, 2010Maybe the Bengals should think twice the next time they want to hand an expensive contract to a big-name free agent.Cincinnati could go 1-for-4 on big-name signings covering the last three years, if defensive end Antwan Odom can't lift himself out of a quagmire of injuries that have stunted the growth and productivity of an extremely talented football player, and if receiver Antonio Bryant does not pan out.Odom is out for the rest of preseason after aggravating an old knee injury to the meniscus. This, after missing a week during training camp because of an illness. He missed the last 10 games of 2009 with a ruptured Achilles. At the time of his injury last season, Odom was tied for the NFL lead with eight sacks and appeared to finally be coming into his own after a disappointing first season in Cincinnati when he missed four games and eight starts with a shoulder injury suffered during practice. Odom missed the entire 2008 preseason with a foot injury suffered the first day of training camp.Cincinnati signed the defensive end to a five-year, $29.5 million contract in 2008. Reportedly $11.5 million of the deal was guaranteed. According to the NFL Player's Association, Odom is slated to make a base salary of 3.4 million this year as part of a heavily back-ended contract. He's due to make $4.5 million next season, if there is a season. He's scheduled to make $5.3 the final year of his deal.Clearly, when Odom is healthy, he causes havoc. But he has played in 18 of a possible 32 games in his first two Bengals seasons. He has started just 14 - or less than 44 percent of the time. BengalByTheBay
Yes, perhaps the Bengals should purchase a crystal ball so that they can see the future and not sign a FA who will tear his achilles tendon. Perhaps, I should purchase land in the desert of California and then hijack a nuclear warhead and detonate it causing the coast to break off into the sea such that my land becomes many times more valuable as toxic beachfront property. ArmyBengal
I can't remember where I saw the writeup, but they mentioned Odom's reaggravating the meniscus injury and didn't seem that concerned.I'll remain hopeful until I see his name on the PUP list. volcom69
They said Odom practiced today, and he said he was gaining weight again which is a good thing

Sorry, I somehow missed the fluffier more positive official version. In retrospect I should have named the thread..."Rumble Tumble, Crumble Mumble?" Or perhaps not. He's not eligible. Few players are. They've got a big decision coming up regarding this guy. My uneducated guess is that they'll IR him before the opener

That said, if he keeps getting pushed around like in the Dallas game, I'd start Dunlap over him right now.

MJ might also be part of this rotation. IMO Zim will find the best use for all of the D players.
ArmyBengal
How many times has it been said that being a starter on this defense has never meant less ?? (At least the front 7)I mean there are so many players that are going to get snaps and there are so many different looks they can throw out, it's ridiculous !!! I bet neither team wants to play it.
ArmyBengal
The fact they can go to their bench to give their "starters" a break and bring in real quality players is going to be huge this season. Our guys should be able to stay fresh for a good portion of the game. Yeah, I'm really looking forward to seeing it in action.NOT PRESEASON...
