Kicker

Recommended Posts

Looks like Nugent is back on top of his game. He hit every FG in camp, even if they were uncontested and has a little bit more distance on his KO's than Rayner.

I hope he can continue to look like his old self, it would be a blessing to have such a talented Kicker fall into the Bengals laps.

From everything I've read to this point, it would appear that both kickers are having a great camp to this point. I think it was the official site that was talking about spliting the team between the kicker and if their kicker hit their FG, their practice was over. If not, they stayed on the field. So far, neither team has had to remain on the field.

The one day Nugent had the long kick of the day of 46 and the next day Rayner followed with one from 50.

Does that mean all of our kicking concerns no longer need to be worried about ?? No, but if the point is to put the ball through the uprights, we are at least getting that right now, as opposed to hearing about how they can't hit sh*t in practice. It's just good to hear at this point and I will take it and be happy.

I would have to say that I'm kind of rooting for Nugent, but as long as we have a kicker that can be consistent, i'll be happy...

I was a bit (only a bit) alarmed that there was not one word about kickoffs

I want to see touchbacks, balls hitting the ground deep in the endzone. I also want to see balls fall right at the zero yard line with plenty of hang time so that the much improved special teams unit can pin (or better yet, strip) the opponent deep in their own territory.

On a related note, anyone know who made the first play of the 2005 season? I will say this - we kicked off, Browns received.

I read something about kickoffs... not sure where. Nugent is said to be working on deeper kickoffs. He is currently kicking to the goal line... not deep into the endzone. Rayner is not even making it to the goal line. So, you might be disappointed.

The music system in the stadium blares out as Nugest approaches the ball for the kickoff

WANGO WANGO WANGO WANGO

TANGO TANGO TANGO TANGO

and as the ball arcs gracefully towards the opposing team's KRs, the following fades slowly away

YEAH! Yeah! yeah! yeah!

It's not like I don't care, but quite honestly I don't have a favorite in this one.

In short, we needed fresh feet.....and either will do.
