Bengals acquire Willingham off waivers

Defensive back was cut by Seahawks

Aaron Wilson

The Cincinnati Bengals have claimed safety DeAngelo Willingham off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

The 6-foot, 200-pound former University of Tennessee player was signed last year as an undrafted rookie with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Willingham was cut and played for the Dallas Cowboys briefly before stints with the New England Patriots and Seahawks' practice squads.

He was signed to the Seahawks' offseason roster in January before being released this week.

Bengals claim RB on waivers

The Bengals on Thursday acquired running back Walter Mendenhall on waivers from the Buffalo Bills.

Mendenhall is a first-year player in 2010. He originally signed as a college free agent with Philadelphia last year. He was waived by the Eagles in June, then signed by Indianapolis in August. He played in three preseason games with the Colts (recording two carries for 21 yards) before being waived on final cuts. He was not with an NFL team during the 2009 regular season. Buffalo signed him to their offseason roster on April 7.

Mendenhall rushed for 796 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior at Illinois State. He is the older brother Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall.

The team also signed cornerback Johnny Searshttp://www.bengals.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif as a college free agent out of Eastern Michigan.

Sears participated in the Bengals rookie minicamp two weeks ago as an unsigned tryout player. He played and started nine games for Eastern Michigan last season. He ranked seventh on the Eagles defense with 37 total tackles (23 solo), and he led the team with seven passes defensed. He also was the Eagles No. 1 kickoff returner with 33 returns for 755 yards (22.9-yard average; long of 53).

They simply have to be concerned about the injuries with that many preseason games and I have no issue with them loading up on castoffs until they absolutely have to get rid of them if it keeps the others healthy.

Is Gus Whatshisname available for OT?
